Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Tilney Group (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

*Good working environment - nice people
*Good level of training and development - both external and internal
*Clear paths to promotions - career development - support is there
    *Good work/home life balance
    *Good benefits
*Happy with the ethos and the advice given by the company - you can be confident that you and your colleagues are doing the right thing for your clients.
    *Many long term employees

    Kontras

*The company has gone through the hard process of merging a few years ago (Towry and Tilney). This has obviously meant that the company has gone through a period of uncertainty and change. Thankfully this is now mostly a past issue.
*Like any job, your satisfaction can be largely derived from the people you work with. Obviously some offices have a better environment than others.
*Bonuses are not as high as industry standard

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Tilney Group (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

I have been with Tilney almost a year and love the fast pace of change, the variety in my day to day job and most of all the people I work with. Due to the nature of my role I have visited most of our many offices and whilst they are all very different in terms of size and indeed culture the thing they share is that they have hard working people who are trying to produce excellent work with limited resources. I haven't worked for a PE backed firm before and have found the top down approach (i.e. they have ultimate control over our budgets, etc) a new challenge which has made me have to be more creative when providing solutions as we don't have loads of money to throw at everything!

    Kontras

We are still working towards integrating and aligning our benefits and ways of working as we are a company formed of many companies through mergers and acquisitions. It's not a negative as such but it will be much better once we have completed the integration journey.

    Rat an das Management

Invest time in coaching, supporting and inspiring your colleagues and teams - the more engaged an individual is the happier they are and the more succcessful the coompany will be - simple!

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Tilney Group (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Good remuneration package inc. benefits and bonus. National business so has a reasonable degree of scale available to it.

    Kontras

Expensive for assets less than £500k and prone to launch new ideas "half-cocked" which causes staff issues with clients which could be avoided

    Rat an das Management

Think new ideas through and plan better!

Ich arbeite in Teilzeit bei Tilney Group (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

The company is going through a period of change and everyone I have met have been honest about that which creates an 'in it together' environment.

Everyone I have met across the business has been super supportive and welcoming which goes a long way when new to a business. I have been encouraged to share my opinions and manage my own time/workload knowing that help is available if I need.

    Kontras

With the above mentioned change, decisions can take longer than I have been used to in other roles and subject to change but there as there is an appetite to learn and move the business forward. So it is an exciting time to be here and support this change.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Tilney Group (Über 10 Jahre)

    Pros

Having been with Tilney for years, I’ve witnessed, in the last couple of years, a real drive to become the UK’s leading wealth management form.

Clients are at the centre of what we do, the firm is embracing (at last) a determination to introduce improvements using technology, to make it easier for the financial planner to work with their clients.

The culture in the South Coast (Bournemouth) office is a pleasure to be part of, with everyone being treated with respect by each other and no poisonous egos that get in the way of maintaining team harmony. I hear the same from many of our other 29 offices.

As a financial planner, it’s important that I have total confidence in my ability representing Tilney, to be able to craft the best advice for my clients. Tilney provides the framework, choice, research and resources to allow me to do this, and my clients are delighted with ongoing planning and service they receive, and, where invested, the market leading performance they’ve received over the years.

    Kontras

The pension benefits (ie employer contributions) are lower than I believe should be offered, and I see other comments on here from people noting a disparity between ex Towry and Tilney contracts in regards to this issue. I agree that the current contract for pension contributions is woefully low, however, I also think that the ex-Towry contract is also poor in this respect when compared to our peers.

    Rat an das Management

The current direction of travel and vision is driving an improved morale and staff are feeling part of this journey.

We need to maintain goodwill, and I think harmonisation of benefits is the first step to this, however, a great message could be delivered by increasing the company’s commitment to their staff’s retirement security.

Overall, keep up the good work.

    Pros

A progressive company with a strong client ethos. Ability to influence ways of working within a company which is not too big and where you are more than just a number.

    Kontras

Limited career progression opportunities or talent pool to nurture and develop future talent.

    Keine Meinung zu Geschäftsführer

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Tilney Group gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

I don't have anything positive to report

    Kontras

I was made redundnat following Tilney's acquisition of Towry. They absolutely dont care about Employee wellbeing or treatment. Having worked for Towry (a far more professional outfit) they were acquired by Tilney in a PE (Permira) backed transaction. I worked for 18 months for Towry. As this was less than 2 years technically I was not entitiled to redundancy settlement. However most companies show some respect and pay at least something. I was paid zero. It is clear this business is all about revenue and profit with a view to listing / crystallising value for PE fund holders. As a result, all researcg staff in the dept I worked for were made redundant leaving a far more junior research team with lower outgoings. Clients invested in Tilney products are receiving a far weaker researched product for the end price than they bought. Very poor, and industry reputation is abysmal now following further exits and team in-fighting. Avoid.

    Rat an das Management

    Treat employees with respect

    Pros

Growing team and clear commitment from management to Manchester and the region.
Team ethos and culture which places client at the heart of what the firm does.
Attractive dual expert proposition actually delivered by highly qualified financial planners and investment managers. I have been blown away by how impressive a number of members of staff are.
Strong long term investment performance and serious thought given to process, philosophy and resourcing of central investment team.
Competitive salary combined with great work life balance.
Lovely team and wider office so expecting big things for 2019 and beyond!

    Kontras

Pension not great, but strong salaries compensate.
Holiday was low (25 days) but HR started to increase.

    Rat an das Management

Currently doing a very good job and you have us on the road to being the leading wealth manager in the UK (although already awarded this by FT).
If the business is to continue being acquisitive (which has worked well to date) try to follow the same process you have so far, ensuring positive culture which fits within Tilney.
