    Pros

    -The food here is great, no doubt about it.
    -Depending on location, there are always shifts to be picked up if you want to.
    -It is easy to be promoted from within.

    Kontras

    -High manager turnover (at my location at least - St. Lawrence Market) and they are rarely competent.
    -The menu can be difficult to memorize, and you will be tested on it if you're a server.
    -Tourist attraction, but complicated menu and sometimes long wait times lead to disgruntled customers.
    -Not the best tips I've gotten compared to other similar restaurants.
    -Oftentimes either way too busy, or completely dead.

    Ensure you are finding good GM's, or delegate more responsibility to the M.O.D. servers.

    I would say that the environment is very fast paced sometimes, especially when its understaffed.

    Fun, knowledgeable managing staff. Fast-paced job and a rewarding tip-out make most restaurant stress worth it.

    Kontras

    Difficult to get a pay raise, hours can change sporadically. Near the end of my tenure, the new managing staff was worse than the ones when I started there.

    Complete run of the restaurant, regardless of what position you were, since he was never in the building.

    Kontras

    Paid all staff very little while taking a ridiculously high salary for himself; deducted a lot of money from all staff illegally; skimmed from tip pool; took groceries home from the restaurant constantly without accounting for them, then blamed the kitchen and management for shortages; drank and ate excessively on the rare occasions he was in the building; used the business as a personal ATM; hit on female staff members until they quit; had no idea how to run his own business

    Good tasting food, love the people I work(ed) with

    Understaffed 6/7 nights, no breaks, forced to work 9+ hour shifts, no meal compensation, about $100 uniform (paid for by you!), run down equipment, disgusting environment, poor ventilation, terrible scheduling, serving grey, smelly, rotten beef, labour cuts, lack of communication between FOH and BOH, corporate uninvolved, gone through over 7 managers in under 2 years

    Think about your employees, otherwise you're not going to have any. If it weren't for the people I work with I would have left months ago. I'm escaping, but I'm genuinely concerned about the people I'm leaving behind because they don't deserve to be used the way they are, and they don't seem to get that it isn't right. Especially not the 17 year old.

    Pros

    Flexible hours, good pay (tips and tip out for BOH staff), great group of people to work with. Work is not hard and it is a very welcoming environment. Hours are awesome too, latest closing time is 11 pm!

    Kontras

    needs to work on management, worked at a few chains and the management was awful. Co-worker wrote to head office about the issues as well and nothing was resolved. Would retain some good employees if issues with management was fixed!

    keep a better eye on the store managers, if you are getting feedback from other employees it should be taken more to heart.

    Pros

    If it wasn't for the great front of house and back of house staff I would have left a long time ago. The people really do make the place tolerable.

    Kontras

    They pay you as little as possible and never reward you for doing a good job. Very disorganized. Most of the time it's the staff that have to figure things out, it's mostly MOD's working ("Manager On Duty", which is a server that is an acting manager because there isn't an actual manager working, the MOD gets a free meal and a little more money so the salary paid manager doesn't have to be there). It's not the same Works that it used to be.

    If your staff is doing a good job let them know, maybe even show them with a decent raise! Don't just focus on the negatives.

    Pros

    The people were really fun and the work is relatively easy. Free meals for kitchen staff and tips after three months

    Kontras

    Management constantly belittling and demoralizing people. Prep was often not up to par and there was rarely an adequate amount of staff on shift. High turnover rate due to mistreatment from management and hiring under false pretenses. They will hire anybody regardless of experience and staff are often poorly trained. Could be very stressful during rushes and they would rather cut somebody who is needed on line than pay them overtime.

    Start looking less at numbers and more at the staff. Pay better wages and don't treat your people like garbage.
