Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei The Trade Desk

    Pros

    Pros

The interview process took four weeks and was pretty intense, but in a positive way - I got to know a couple of people from different departments and offices and I gained a lot of knowledge about TTD, it's product, processes and it's company culture.

From my first day at TTD, company culture has been the number one priority.
The on-boarding process is well structured and stuffed with helpful material.
Can't wait to deep dive into their great ad tech!

    Kontras

    I cannot think of something.

    Rat an das Management

Stick to your values and live the TTD philosophy!

Top of the line benefits (medical, dental, 401k, stock)
    Free snacks and food
Ventura is beautiful-close to the beach

    Kontras

    NO work life balance
    NO flexibility
    NO “real” HR
    Too many cliques

    Rat an das Management

Executive management at The Trade Desk is wonderful ... so it seems. Unfortunately, everyone is blinded by the stock prices and maintaining a false “happiness”. Work life balance is nonexistent. For women especially, moving up is quite challenging. They boast of collaboration yet your ideas are constantly shut down by the “older generation” who have fear of change ... fear that you will take their job. So improvements remain stagnant. In order to get promoted, you have to be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week, brown nose, and dedicate your LIFE to The Trade Desk. It’s much different than what they advertise publicly “Work Life Balance” and “Flexibility”. No one in my department has a life. There’s inappropriate behavior, borderline sexual harassment, discrimination … not a positive place to be long term. TTD is proud to be one of “The Best Places to Work” ... not if you have integrity, a family or an active personal life. TTD doesn’t care about you as a person like they used to. Honestly, they feel their benefits make up for the abuse. HR is nonexistent and are not employee friendly. You address what would be consider to be serious issues and you’re frowned upon. The cycle continues. You watch people come in with bright eyes, inspired and loving the vision… Yet one year later they are physically, mentally, and emotionally drained ... sadly it shows as new hires look aged only a year later. It’s hypocrisy. I used to think that the C level management may be not in the loop on these things, but they are well aware and choose to ignore it by offering great benefits, food, parties and stock options. You can’t buy everyone and will continue to lose great people by not correcting potential liabilities and bullying by middle-management. I love TTD, but something has got to give. Material things will not give a person their life, family and integrity back.

    Pros

C-Suite is visible and transparent, employees come from a variety of backgrounds and all support TTD's vision and mission, great benefits and perks, opportunity to travel, strong focus on maintaining special culture with high growth

    Kontras

Processes sometimes get in the way of getting things done, no manager evaluations

    Rat an das Management

Pay attention to your team, listen to them, and truly help them grow. Your team's success is a reflection of your ability as a manager. Believe in them and don't set them up for failure.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei The Trade Desk (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Good benefits, stock, healthcare, global company

    Kontras

    Extremely clique
    Horrible HR
    Mistreatment of employees
    Incompetent leadership

The Trade Desk can be really good for some people, and really bad for others, depending on how you play the game. In most offices, there is a clique that runs the office, and if you get in with them you’re golden. TTD hides the cliqueness by calling it ‘culture.’ If you’re part of it you’ll be given promotions, HR complaints lodged against you will be ignored, and you won’t have to work hard. There are some truly evil people protected by these groups, and I’ve seen many people in my office bullied by them. If you aren’t part of that group, your life can be absolute hell. It’s high school all over again, except you’re financially punished for it because you’ll miss out on clients/career opportunities by not being friends with these people.

HR is tiny and doesn’t even have people in most offices. There are too many people that have gone to HR with complaints of things that are blatantly illegal or horribly wrong, and HR just tries to shut them up and they don’t do anything. If they go to your managers, they just try to shut them up and advise them that the best way to get ahead is to feign happiness. There a absolutely miserable people here just trying to smile to get that next promotion.

Women aren’t treated equally. The CEO essentially acknowledge that pay is unequal across the company last year and that they don’t have a plan of fixing it.

A lot of managers were given their jobs because they got here early, or were friends with the right people. This goes all the way up to the top where there are some people that everyone knows are incompetent, but are kept around for cultural aspects, when in reality they just bully people in their own offices and don’t do work.

    Rat an das Management

Empower HR to do their jobs by putting at least one person in every single office. Let them run down leads even it the leads are against your best friends.

Re-assess every manager and VP you have. Some of them might be your friends and helped build the company up to where it is, but it doesn’t mean they are suited for the job they are in anymore. Let there be a way to submit feedback on all of these people. There are some very depressed people in your offices that feel like they have no way to create change and improve the company they love.

Culture doesn’t mean just one thing, be open to diversity of thought and way of being within your work force, don’t keep hiring people that have the exact same habits as you. Some of the people that are lifted up as the best cultural ambassadors are some of the people that are the meanest to the quieter people. Some of the people that are said to be the best cultural ambassadors are some of the worst workers you have, and should have been told to leave long ago. Don’t just focus on lifting up people that are popular in your offices, spotlight the shyer people that do amazing work that feel left out, and overlooked.

    Pros

Great engineering culture that strives to make sure everyone is satisfied and challenged. Asking questions is greatly encouraged, as is helping those who need it. Managers make an honest effort to hear you out and help you grow your career. Trustworthiness and humility are a TTDer's best virtues.

    Kontras

TTD is only near-perfect. The effort is there to fix things but management can be slow to figure out the right solutions.

    Rat an das Management

Growing the team is hard, please stay transparent, especially when we fail or are wrong.

    - Benefits
    - Flexibility to pursue other interests within the company
    - Passionate environment
    - Possibility of Travel
    - Global company with exposure to global teams

    Kontras

    - Becoming a manager requires more politicking than one would like (but it's no different than any other company and they have been re-investing in middle management)

    Rat an das Management

There is no such thing as a perfect company, or a perfect culture. Though TTD hides it's flaws well, we are not exempt from that truth. Over 3 years is enough time to know that upper management listens to every word. I give you a 5 because you know how to hire smart people who care.
