    Pros

    Generally the people at SCC are great
    Initial salary good
    Bonus good
    Ability to buy up to 5 days holiday
    Car allowance reasonable
    Free tea and coffee in the kitchen

    Kontras

    No annual pay reviews
    No professional development
    Many, many changes in line management in a short space of time (6 different line managers in <3 years)
    Legal department producing customer contracts not worth the paper they are written on (or disk space they occupy)! Competitors were able to waltz in and take over a customer contract with little recourse.
    Little/no attempt to fill vacancies from within SCC. No concept of staff retention. SCC would rather dish out £thousands to recruitment agencies than bother to retain their staff. Large staff attrition rate. Who is being made accountable in the management chain!? Not allowed to work from home, at all, ever! Even when you could demonstrate you could be far more productive and spend far less time travelling and more time actually working. Very short sighted approach which impacts work/life balance.

    Focus on staff development, staff retention, building teams and not a collection of individuals. Make service contracts clearer and enforceable. Allow limited working from home where the job allows to improve work/life balance. Advertise internal vacancies more effectively as I have lost count the number of times vacancies appear on external job sites before even being aware there was a vacancy!

    Pros

    You are valued and rewarded well at SCC when you work hard. They look after their people investing in training and development and supporting people in their promotion ambitions or moving sideways across to other departments and roles. It is a fair and supportive company with many talented and innovative people to work alongside. It continues in its success, meaning a stable workplace for employees to benefit from.

    The main HQ building is a bit tatty , however a refurb is planned ahead.

    Pros

    Lots of very nice and friendly people.
    The business is solid and stable so job security is great.
    It's a really interesting place to work as the company has such a diverse portfolio.
    Lots of people to meet from offices across the UK.
    Pay is fair and competitive.
    SCC Champions competition is a great way of rewarding staff.
    More training on offer than any other company I've worked for. Great variety of courses run up and down the country (plus they're free to all).
    On the whole, I find it a very good place to work.

    Kontras

    Traditional approach to flexi-time (pretty stringent by modern standards).
    Parking at HQ is rather terrible (not enough spaces), although we've been told this is soon to be rectified.

    Keep growing the business at the terrific rate you are!
    Keep an eye on the 'modernity' of the company with regards to employee benefits. Competitors are increasingly offering extra incentives to work for them and this is maybe an area SCC is lacking (for example the flexi-time approach).

    Pros

    The recruitment process was great, everything was set up for me when I arrived and a comprehensive on-boarding process was in place to help me settle in.

    Ever since everyone has been great, there's always support available and there are good opportunities to progress internally.

    Pros

    Many nice and helpful people work at SCC but this doesn't make up for the shambles that this organisation is in.

    Kontras

    - Processes are missing, unworkable or nobody even knows how they should work. Things are accomplished by begging people to help rather than process.
    - Modern ITSM tooling is in place but horrifically underutilised. Used mainly for ticketing with no infrastructure integration and little self-service / automated workflow.
    - No minimum supported level for hardware or os (many client's running infrastructure well outside of vendor support)
    - Management don't manage their teams effectively and there were no KPIs or formal individual reviews / catch ups.
    - No on-boarding or mentoring outside of "here's a couple of documents you may want to read"
    - SCC ignore that fact that a large number of employees work outside of Birmingham. If you want anything done you really need to be in Birmingham or you'll struggle. Also most if not all minor employee perks are purely Birmingham centric.
    - SDMs are dumped onto client sites with no on-boarding, training or facilities and expected to "just get on with it".
    - Communication is (unless your in Birmingham) shockingly bad.
    - SCC predominately uses previous generation technologies.
    - There is a very high level of employee attrition with many not finishing their probationary period before deciding to leave. SCC don't know or care why employees are leaving as there are no exit interviews.
    - Employee benefits are based on the minimum SCC think they can get away with and pay rises are few and far between.
    - Expenses are very difficult to claim (seemly by design) and private car mileage doesn't cover the fuel consumption of even the most fuel efficient vehicle. You will be nominated a "home office" and a round trip to this location (even if you never travel there) will be deducted from any mileage claims.

    The same senior leadership has been in place for many years and it shows with an old fashioned approach in management style and employee engagement. Some new blood with fresh modern thinking is badly needed.
