Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Royal College of General Practitioners gearbeitet

    Pros

Nice work building; some great friends (those who are nice)

    Kontras

If you thrive working in a fast pace, flexible, agile environment and want to innovate and react to emerging thinking you'll soon be identified as a virus against a status quo that still thinks the world is in the 70s.

    Rat an das Management

Good luck staying in touch. Soon you'll find out results are not being delivered and all eyes will be on you. Value your experts or other competitors will.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Royal College of General Practitioners  (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Most staff are lovely people and the building is great. Flexible working and helping doctors do a better job is also nice.

    Kontras

The COO and senior management team haven't got a clue what they are doing. They don't understand what the organisation does and obsess over tiny matters, micromanaging, while ignoring the strategically important stuff. They don't trust the experts they have employed to do a job which is why all the best people are leaving or already gone. One very long standing assistant director is just poison but she's been there so long they all listen to her for some reason.

    Rat an das Management

Be strategic and actually lead. Devolve decision making to the experts actually doing the work. Get rid of the rubbish and poisonous staff

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Royal College of General Practitioners  (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Super convenient location, gorgeous building/office, happy people, some general appetite for growth and some directors are brilliant.

    Kontras

    - they offer 2 types of contracts (depending on roles) and one is crap, nothing better than statutory minimums, making turnover high and moral low
    - No career development or promotions
    - The organisation has changed management: got rid of CEO and lead by senior stakeholders who are not business people and don't 'get it', and want sign off on everything though never actually sign off.
    - As organisation is absolutely opposed to risk and non commercial, despite claims otherwise ... this makes it near impossible to get any plans approved.

    Rat an das Management

    - To many chefs spoil the pot
    - Get commercial management in place if you really want to grow/expand
    - Take better care of ALL your employees
    - Money talks and your employees have bills to pay
    - Trust the managers/directors you've put in place to do the right thing

    Pros

    - Great colleagues, with a generally relaxed and friendly working atmosphere.
    - The office in London is a really pleasant place to work, and located conveniently.
    - Have a good amount of responsibility with varied and interesting work.
    - Good work/life balance - very rarely need to work late, good flexi arrangements.

I suspect it varies from role to role but I get a lot of job satisfaction.

    Kontras

    - It's a confusing structure, can be hard to navigate the processes and senior management.
    - Teams rarely work together. Can feel very political.
    - Some management decisions seem arbitrary and unnecessary. Seems to have been improving more recently, however.
    - Not a huge amount of career progression for some roles.

    Pros

Really nice colleagues and fleixble working arrangements.

    Kontras

RCGP is a difficult place to work. It has a negtive, very secretive, and very micro-managing culture and the different parts of the organisation struggle to work together.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Royal College of General Practitioners gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

It's a lovely building to work in and many of the staff are friendly. There is a staff network which run regular social activities from quiz nights to charity cake sales

    Kontras

The RCGP has terrible internal communications and all of the departments seem to work in silos. There are too many levels of management. A large number of staff having been working at the RCGP for many years (10+) which creates a level of complacency and difficulty when trying to move to new/more efficient ways of working.

    Pros

    - Great Staff Benefits
    - Amazing building and location to work in

    Kontras

    - Little to no career development
    - Recuiting externally rather than prioritising internal employees
    - Salary way below London average

    Pros

Non-management staff are generally really nice, friendly and fun. Location is great - large, open building with good coffee shop. Being involved in training GPs feels worthwhile and useful.

    Kontras

Sadly RCGP is run by committees and senior management who are all fighting for top spot. One director runs his department like a despot, staff made so scared they jump to fulfil his whims - instead of being left to work on important stuff. 'Yes' people are manoeuvred into place to continue this without question. The CEO seems like a genuinely nice guy but doesn't change any of this.

IT is woefully out of date despite the small IT dept working their socks off to support the staff. HR is laughable - they ignore serious complaints and constantly make mistakes like getting names and dates wrong (check your contract carefully!).

Staff turnover of 40% shows how people feel - but also makes for lots of leaving drinks, shame the salary's are so bad it's hard to buy a round!

    Rat an das Management

Spend more money internally and listen to staff. Stop wasting money on outsourcing.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Royal College of General Practitioners  (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Firstly, the last review made me laugh and I wonder if the manager in question wrote it. It is sickly untrue as that 'best manager' has had a string of resignations from capable employees who simply cannot work for the person in question. The RCGP has many good employees and is located in a wonderful building. Besides that there's not much going for it and an annual staff turnover of 40% tells a bleak story of what it is like to work there. If the members knew the truth of what goes on they would be horrified!

    Kontras

Very weak senior leadership who have no direction and simply self serve their own needs. The problem is they are so weak they cannot face their own failings and probably think they are good! Many suspect there is a hidden agenda as many projects are costly and yet the college is run like it was in the 70's. It would not surprise me in the slightest if bungs were taking place. Pay is very low for London and staff are treated very bad, there is a fear of discipline if you don't take orders when you know they are wrong. Money is wasted like it is grown on trees. Overall a very poor employer and I can't wait to find another job once I have got a year on my CV.

    Rat an das Management

Give up and let more capable staff in to turn the sorry mess around. Look in the mirror accept your own failings and stop treating staff so poorly.
