Ich arbeite seit mehr als 5 Jahren bei Rio Tinto ()

    Pros

Workplace in downtown Montreal Nice and professional co-workers Competitive salary

    Kontras

Due to the versatility of the market and the outsourcing of several departments, the company has fired a lot of people, letting go valued experience. Very limited possibility to grow with the company as contractor.

    Rat an das Management

I disagree with the outsourced model chosen by the company. I think another way is possible allowing to keep jobs in Canada. And I would like the high management to be more open to discussion on that matter.

Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei Rio Tinto gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

nice friendly co-workers; very diversified workforce. managers are generally forgiving (this could be a con sometimes too. see below).

    Kontras

clumsy culture in terms of operation; transaction cost theory and agency theory work - so unsurprisingly, the best strategy for low-to-middle level employees is to work the minimum - just to meet the threshold.

    Rat an das Management

really needs to emphasize more on the training of middle-level manager

Ich arbeite seit mehr als einem Jahr bei Rio Tinto (Teilzeit)

    Pros

Good work-life-pay balance, good benefits Abundant opportunities to move among business units, among business functions and among countries Plenty of very experienced people in the resources industry, great learning opportunities Not much sense of hierachy, senior people are usually more than happy to coach young employees

    Kontras

People management can be poor. Continued under performance are not always addressed.

    Rat an das Management

Act like an owner yourself first

Ich arbeite bei Rio Tinto (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Great base pay, flexible management who put employees needs high on the list. Good companies attract good people. The health, safety and general well being of the employees would rival any company.

    Kontras

A larger company sometimes mean things are done at snail pace and urgency in some things is not at the forefront. Decisions tend to take longer than they should.

    Rat an das Management

Some minor cons in otherwise an excellent company to work for. Timeliness of decision making and sometimes the fear of making a decision relating to change needs to improve. Other than that, keep up the good work.

    Stimmt gegen Geschäftsführer

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 3 Jahren bei Rio Tinto (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Strong on career development and providing employees with the opportunity to get knowledge from across the business. Good company if want to work overseas.

    Kontras

There are many layers of management and some central service departs are silos of bureaucracy. Can be very slow at making simple decisions as the culture if very 'softly softly' when comes down to changing the status quo.
