    Work/Life balance Corporate minutiae keeps things from every really crunching

    Cronyism. Bonuses are abysmal. Compensation is under market rate. Not a culture of cultivating or retaining talent. I had a manager tell me what a good idea it is to burn and turn junior employees to do all the hard work. Talented employees rarely stick around once they figure out the lay of the land.     Do some serious soul searching in how you actually achieve the goals of better serving education. Actually setup some programs that are successful in retaining & cultivating talent. Make this a place not where careers go to die but where they go to flourish. It's 2018, as a software developer there are much better places to work.     The pay is decent, and benefits are above average.

    The company is slowly creeping towards bankruptcy due to not investing in employees with a vested interest in the company performing well. There are random yearly terminations due to company performance overall.

    To motivate employees, advance from within rather than hiring outside management, and stop outsourcing & invest in countries in which you do business. Local employees have reason to perform well.

    There is some working from home and schedule flexibility. There are still some really bright developers here. The Denver work location is nice.

    For anyone considering a job with Pearson in the USA, beware. They are aggressively off shoring jobs and converting their entire workforce to contract workers. There is a never ending stream of bad news anymore and a flood of talent leaving the company.     Good benefits, Work from home when needed.

    Low morale, Draconian style of management. Was a great company once but with recent changes there is lot of politics and aggressive mid management tactics which makes it no fun to work. Just had a big 10% layoffs and really good old timers who were still passionate about the company were let go. People are quitting left and right. What was once a thriving place has seen its culture deteriorate. Stay away from this...

    As a developer, you will work with new technologies. You get to pretend like you are impacting other's lives through education.

    Too many to list. Poorly managed. Very high turn over rate and attrition rate. In spite of that cannot afford the staff it has now. 10 percent workforce layoff across the board in quarter one 2016. They hire many visa based employees, pay them poorly and hold the visa over their head as a weapon (I do not have a visa). Unrealistic project goals and unattainable deadlines. Be prepared to work long hours and holidays...

    Pearson has some great talent and maybe even some potential for greatness. We'll see what's left after their most recent layoffs.

    There is no clear vision communicated from the top. We keep rebuilding major systems instead of investing in the ones we've got. We think that agile is delivering twice a year.

    Find some high level (if not C-level) people who truly understand technology: web services, APIs, continuous delivery, automation, DevOps, analytics, etc. Find some more high level people who understand efficacy, user experience, and who can come up with a product suite and get all those people working together to come up with a vision that is clearly communicated and pursued.     Benifits, people centered culture. I loved the PTO and management that was more focused on helping you perform, then on making performance contort to metrics.

    Inability of management to see projects through... When they get scared of costs the ship it off shore where lowest bidders finish killing it.
