Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Pearson als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

Very easy work and had good benefits.

    Kontras

It was like working in a call center. You had to call so many prospective students and talk for a certain amount of hours each day. It was very tedious work, your hours got switched every couple of months, and managers would always put your questions or concerns "on the back burner."

    Rat an das Management

Hire people in management positions that are knowledgable about the work you are asking of your employees and know how to manage employees.

    Kontras

Things change regularly, and there is a lot that you are responsible for on a day to day. One will need good organization skills to keep up.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 3 Jahren bei Pearson (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Benefits and Cafeteria in the building with decent food. Great team members, management is the only problem.

    Kontras

I don't even know where to start. The micromanagement is pure insanity. All calls are recorded and played back to you in weekly one on one's, breaks are monitored, constant relentless pressure on factors that are out of your control. If your student wants to cancel their enrollment the assumption is that it is your fault for not getting deep enough into the initial discovery call. You are required to go by a very... rigid script on all introductory calls which is excessive and tends to irritate most of the students. 80 calls per day required but if you are not meeting your metrics it is frowned upon to have less than 100 dials in a day. In some scenarios, most members of certain teams are not hitting their goals...and 8 out of 12 advisors on a team were put on a performance improvement plan.

    Rat an das Management

Trust your employees and stop treating us like $10/hour call center agents. Stop monitoring aux out times and breaks like we can't be trusted, and have some confidence in your people!

Ich habe für mehr als 3 Jahre bei Pearson gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Lots of vacation time, nice facilities.

    Kontras

I thought for a long time about whether I wanted to post any reviews of this company, because I am honestly so much happier now that they're in my rearview mirror and am hesitant to relive things. But I really want to caution potential applicants. They are good at making their employees very jaded while stringing them along with broken promises about how things are going to get better. The job descriptions on their... website do not match what is actually needed for the roles. Training is a joke, you learn most of what you need to know from your peers once you get to the floor. The systems are outdated and not built to handle the volume of leads coming in for each school so everything breaks constantly and none of the systems are linked to each other. They legally aren't allowed to fire you over not meeting enrollment goals or write about it in your yearly review but they'll always find a way to punish you or fire you because of it. Senior management puts it on ground level employees to influence culture and middle management are not bought in to company values. This is also a for-profit company and they run all their non-profit college enrollment departments like for profit schools. You aren't there to help students, you're there to sell to them. The departments are filled with ex-University of Phoenix employees and culture is really passive aggressive and toxic. Managers are useless for the most part and are just there to micromanage. Goals are unattainable with how leads are managed and the for profit culture really comes through when you express concerns about how students are being handled or how employees are being set up to fail. All the employees are forced to become arrogant and anti-collaborative in order to get anywhere and move up. The pay is also not consistent and some new hires make more than tenured employees in the same role. Pay is not competitive based on other industry positions and has less benefits, no commission or work from home perks. This is a good job to have for a year if you have no experience in enrollment and want to get some before applying to a real school, because they pretty much hire anyone with a bachelor's degree. They are good at trapping employees and gaslighting though so dont stay too long or believe any of their promises.

    Rat an das Management

If management is truly concerned about retaining talent, they need to take a hard look at themselves and the people they hire to lead recruitment and be honest about why no one stays more than a year or two.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als einem Jahr bei Pearson (Vollzeit)

    Pros

The starting pay is not bad for someone that is just starting out in the business.

    Kontras

The company does not care about their employees. They implement new forms of metrics almost every month, but give no electronic systems to support the expectations of performance. Within the 6 months, all the senior managers quit and left and their positions have not even been filled. Where there are leaders left over, they have no idea what they are doing.

    Rat an das Management

Get the systems updated, learn what your enrollment advisors actually do, and help your company to grow internally.

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Pearson als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

Steady income, good benefits, can work overtime, upbeat people

    Kontras

Talk time, call metrics, strapped to a phone all day, managers who do not have MBA degrees that don't have proper leadership skills, your performance is all related to enrollment numbers, being placed on the phones in a matter of days after training with many different things happening at once. Do not be fooled that you'll be working as an advisor and your building a relationship with prospective students alone.... You're going to be working a phone job, with many things happening at once which includes several systems going on a two computer screens and a scripted dialogue you must follow. Computer systems are outdated and difficult to use. All calls are recorded, so you'll be graded upon what you are saying and how well you are pushing to get enrollments. You will have to be knowledgeable with many different college programs, talking about them to get students to enroll. There's more to take on than just your normal multitasking.

    Rat an das Management

When hiring for this position, be very clear that this is a phone job selling a product...online college enrollments. Also be very clear that there will be numbers to hit in order to be successful. Many hearing this will not want this position, for it's a phone position in sales.

    Pros

    Good benefits from day one

    Kontras

    - They count the amount of minutes you take to go to the bathroom - No support from management whatsoever - Create a culture of 'accountability', meaning they will blame you for every downfall within the company - Treat you as an hourly employee and will try to dock your pay for every minute that you are late/take 'too many breaks' - No work life balance whatsoever - Basically have to inhale your lunch since... you have very limited break/lunch times

Ich arbeite seit mehr als einem Jahr bei Pearson (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Work with great partnerships and amazing coworkers who work with each other to get the job done. Great benefits and great pay with no experience.

    Kontras

Constant change and no clear set policy. Directors and Managers for different groups don't get along and constantly fight with one another. Zero room to move up into a management position.

    Rat an das Management

Treat everyone the same, managers and directors shouldn't be able to talk down on each other and then act like we all get along.

    Pros

    - Coworkers - Had a job

    Kontras

    - Hamster wheel - Inadequate salaries & raises - No educational growth - Difficulty taking personal & vacation time - Scripted sales pitch where deviation is punished - Little to no diversity or inclusion in Recruitment

    Rat an das Management

Stop lying! Pearson's Online Services represents a number of well known campus institutions. They use a for-profit model to chase students who are not qualified in many cases. Sure they will tell you to bring in qualified students, but when you tell management that someone isn't qualified, they accuse you of "cherry picking" students or transfer that student lead to someone else to enroll. Pearson thinks... they can use the predatory methods of the for-profit industry to meet unreasonable sales goals because they are not a school. Many of the universities don't know staff are pushed to reach out 2-3 times a day not including electronic methods. Schools should secret shop and hear the "Voice of Pearson" then watch a documentary called Failed State, 2018. There are some real similarities in recruitment behavior.
