    Pros

Ability to work from home Opportunities to learn Nice coworkers Understanding managers Good benefits Opportunities for overtime Hardly ever more than 40 hours per week

    Kontras

Not a lot of upward mobility Gets a little repetitive and boring Many tasks are more secretarial than editorial Projects may shift very suddenly

    Pros

    - In my experience, the strength of Pearson is that it allows you to work with complete ownership. - Your equation with your manager defines your appraisal. - Unlike many other publishing houses, Pearson is tech driven.

    Kontras

-The company is weak when it comes to providing appropriate training and knowledge transfer so I would say it is not the best for freshers. -Processes are poorly defined, too many platforms to juggle and work with add to the work pressure -Unfair work division as Assistant Editor, Associate Editor and Development Editor have exactly the same responsibilities. -Growth is slow.

    Rat an das Management

-Should start proper training and standardize their processes - Should look at fair division of work for better employee satisfaction

    Pros

It is a great place for working mothers and fathers who need flexibility. Benefits were great.

    Kontras

Compensation could be better, especially for people starting out in the editing track.

    Rat an das Management

Motivate your employees with compensation that matches what other young college graduates earn upon graduation.

    Pros

    - Wonderful, hard working people at the development level - The people who work directly in sales, educational development, IT, etc. genuinely care about their roles and their impact on education. - Students and teacher input is highly valued at the development level

    Kontras

    - Division mangers are generally unsure of the role/inner workings of the teams they oversee. - Cuts and restructuring are impromptu and are made with little foresight - Very unstable company to work for at the moment. Management cannot seem to decide if the future of the company is bleak or on the up-and-up. Cuts are frequent--about four or five rounds in the last six months, with more restructuring planned...

    Rat an das Management

The perception of upper management within the company is very poor. A recent company-wide survey (Fall 2016) showed that the vast majority of people do not approve of the job management is doing. Management is well aware of this, but seems to find it easier for themselves to ignore the issue rather than address it and improve. My advice to management: Get your act together.

    Pros

My coworkers and managers were great to work with. The work itself was fulfilling for someone who loves editing. I was able to work from home.

    Kontras

Right now, employment is unstable, particularly for editors.

    Pros

Great company -- competitive products. Good benefits. Great people.

    Kontras

Massive layoffs at the beginning of the year.

    Rat an das Management

When you have massive layoffs, consult the leaders of your departments before cutting their teams -- they have the best insight on who is valuable to keep vs. making cold cuts based on money alone.

    Pros

Great structure and support for working from home; exceptional quality of materials; smart, talented people; and well-established processes

    Kontras

Work did get monotonous over time; restructuring has caused a lot of uncertainty and job insecurity; changed a lot of their full-time positions to being only contract/freelance; eliminated entire high-functioning teams during reorg with no evaluation of individual performance

    Rat an das Management

Lower and mid level managers are great; the problems seem to come from the top

Decent pay, great benefits, Summer Fridays, modern, clean facilities

    Pros

Genuinely talented staff, great learning experience

    Kontras

Lack of transparency, very little chance for advancement

    Rat an das Management

Tell employees what's going on upstairs. If permanent employees who have departed are not going to be replaced, this information should be public. The silence is bad for morale.

    Pros

Best HR practices in the industry Best workplace ambiance (not work environment) I found so far, things employees may take for granted here took years to build up and develop. Very good administration and housekeeping staff Spick-and-span office space

    Kontras

The HR team should know the pulse of every department and intervene to retain loyal, hardworking and talented employees to stop the brain and skill drain. Old timers mostly higher ups are draining the company's wealth.

    Rat an das Management

Look inside departments & find a way to retain valuable assets and not just rely on the hierarchical structure. Cut costs but not by reducing the quality of life of the lower level employees but by auditing the excessive expenses and splurging of the higher ups.
