    Pros

    They are growing, have a good reputation within the industry, and have excellent compensation and benefits offerings. There are interesting problems to solve.

    Though they have stated values surrounding lofty concepts - such as Transparency and Integrity - the implementation is sorely lacking. They have hired and promoted people with impressive resumes, but who lack many of the basic skills and talents needed to perform their jobs. Though they speak a lot about Inclusion and Diversity, and have training about avoiding bias, the net results are far less impressive. Honest... feedback about dysfunctional patterns is not appreciated (and barely tolerated). It's a great place to earn some money and bolster your resume, but is not a long-term career - except for a very small group of elite.

    Pros

    My coworkers were friendly and supportive. No-meetings are allowed to be scheduled on Thursdays and it's a company-wide WFH day. Decent comp package.

    Kontras

    The tech stack is a joke; monolithic Java stack, and Chef-based deployments. The process around planning is so heavy when it came to monthly and weekly sprint planning that I felt like I was constantly in meetings. Okta has a "Technical Program Management" that is basically a team of glorified Scrum Masters where the majority of them are non-technical. Okta felt like a rest and vest sort of company where I can't... fathom why anyone wishing to grow their technical skills would even entertain wanting to work there. Okta is also a very "email heavy" culture.

    - Benfits do not match Canadian standard - Outdated technology in some areas makes it hard to learn and grow - Promotion and career advance can be tricky because of the monolithic architecture only certain teams, who work closely with the core of the monolith have a chance of being visible for their everyday work

    - Great co-workers, lots of smart people, though most of your team members will likely be at HQ in San Francisco or San Jose - New Toronto office is very nice, with good perks. - Toronto co-workers are great, from a breadth of different teams - Very flexible hours, and work from home once a week - Excellent base pay - Honest and candid leadership - Recognition is given regularly and properly. Lots of... opportunity for growth. Well-defined career tracks (technical & management) - People, in its great majority, put a genuine effort in improving what's not good enough

    - Benefits (especially vacation) are very basic, even when they didn't have to be - to the point of being annoying sometimes - HR and workplace management are all in HQ (San Francisco), so getting their attention on many of the pain points around benefits/office issues can be very challenging - Work/life balance can be tricky with a Pacific-Time based team - Complicated dev environment & monolithic architecture... of the product sometimes complicate the simplest of tasks - Not the fastest brand of agile is followed in the dev process

    You have a great thing going on, the company is amazing, the people are amazing, the office is pretty great, the product is amazing, the leadership is amazing. Improve on the benefits, add local HR & workplace representation and pay more attention to the requests of the satellite offices. That would go a long way to keep people happy. Make a bigger effort to re-architect your product around microservices. That... would definitely pay off as well.

    Pros

    Lots of perks, catered lunch and good work place environment. People are great to be around and office is beautiful to be at. Flexible hours and great culture. Just all around awesome to work at.

    Growing pains. Lack of support in the office and communication is lost from HQ. Too busy trying to implement features when there's need to be more time put into cleaning up the tech.

    HR, payroll and IT, although not required should really be looked into growing as they are needed to keep employees happy. Lacking these things sometimes feel like we're on our own to fend for ourselves.

    - Customer Support Team is led by fantastic leadership that both listens and cares about what you have to say, is interested in your career trajectory (it was even brought up in my interview which is one of the reasons I joined the company), and invests heavily in team engagement and improvement. - The Support team is the best of the best. I have the pleasure of working with some of the most motivated, intelligent..., and engaged team members that anyone could ask for. - There is never a sense of "working alone" or unwillingness to assist from any coworker. Truly a great team to be in! - The new employees are consistently coming in better than their predecessors. Continuing this trend will make sure the team always is the best team to work in. - The work continues to grow in complexity and for those that like to continually learn and be challenged, there is no better environment than Okta! - Salary and benefits are great, and annual reviews to keep compensation competitive are better than any other place I have worked. - Kitchens are now rotating stock with new food to keep things feeling fresh. - Growth opportunities continue to expand, with new roles and positions opening up on an increasing pace.

    - If you aren't ready for a challenge, this may not be the place for you. - The company is growing fast. This leads to plenty of growing pains and problems, which the company is working hard to scale at the current level. - Some of the team members have a personal problem against management that they won't let go due to issues that have primarily passed before I joined the team. When prompted about issues that... could be fixed, more often than not, complaints that are shared are based on a personal view that doesn't consider other coworkers or the team as a whole. Luckily, you'll find that these tend to be a small minority of the group, and the newer employees are both very satisfied and engaged in their roles, actively working towards creating a better work environment.

    - You are doing a great job growing at this speed! - Make sure that you keep a close eye on manager to employee ratio, as the US team is headed towards a situation where employees may not be able to get enough one-on-one time because the managers are too overloaded. - Support team has lost some fantastic talent due to feeling slighted or unfairly treated. Some people see the management as unwilling to change or... make things fair for all employees. Make sure these individual problems are addressed and that each employee feels that their concerns are understood, and continue to work with them towards amicable solutions. Not everyone feels this way, but the fact that there are some that do should be an indicator that more attention is needed in this area.

    Nearly unlimited advancement potential Group works together as a unit Management pays attention and cares

    Workload. If you want an easy job this is not the place for you Did I mention workload? Yes it's manageable -- and the rewards are very real -- but at first you'll feel like you are failing (that eventually passes)

    Great People, Salary and Culture. Free food and snacks. Most people are easy going and are determined to help you succeed no matter what.

    Kontras

    Support Management doesn't listen. Performers get penalized by picking up the slack of others. Patterns of others are overlooked that are obvious. (e.g. case load gets high, mysterious sickness so cases can be re-distributed to others; rinse and repeated) -- Burnout factor is high due the above -- Cases are not distributed evenly (again performers get penalized) -- Processes are made up on-the-fly to appease... situations, however NOT thoroughly thought out -- Processes are not enforced for everyone, even when on the same Team -- When you speak up about anything, you become a target Stay away from Support.

    Instead of saying "we will fix that", actually fix things. Being a "Team player" gets old when you let others slide by. Deal with it is not the answer. "Yes men" are for Government , not for a fast-growing company.
