    Pros

Government benefits are great. Very family friendly generally flexible work environment. Working with cleared people is a little easier. You know your work makes a difference in the world!

    Kontras

Depending on the economy, private companies may have better compensation.

    Establish your brand. Defend it.

    Pros

Good coworkers as long as they were below supervisor level

    Kontras

Worst job I ever had. Abused, harassed, and hostile work environment. Preferential treatment, unethical violations of confidentiality, and hiring bias are the norm. Uses OIG , ombudsman, EEO, and security offices to harass and retaliate against whistle-blowers of potential Anti-Deficiency Act violations. Being an intelligence agency, they are protected. Even complaints to Congress who received manufactured... reports of actual incidents of misconduct. Nothing is reported to congress, yet ask the workforce and over 200 complaints of misconduct surface, which are immediately addressed by focus groups conducted by unqualified facilitators. They only open up the wounds again and give the perception of doing something. Yet nothing changes until Admiral Sharp.

    Rat an das Management

Give Admiral Sharp free reign to clear out the perpetrators from the senior ranks all the way down to front line supervisors who are mentored and coached how to get a promotion by abusing their subordinates. If caught, they are taught to stay on a joint duty assignment to ODNI or after a year to come back to a promotion and a new batch of fresh meat. Remove personnel in the EEO office who only manufacture data to... show others that their methodology does not show adverse impact in their selection systems and promotion processes for black employees and especially in hiring no American Indian applicants despite their qualifications over white friends.

    Pros

    V. Adm Sharp is a great director and the best thing to happen for the Agency in 5 years.

    Kontras

The "Rank-in-Person" promotion structure is the single biggest killer of motivation. If you like being evaluated for promotion based on a 15+ page package that people may or may not grossly embellish, based on criteria that change year to year, this Agency is probably a good fit for you. For anyone who likes to be considered for promotion by applying to a more challenging role that they feel leverages their... strengths, you should take your talent somewhere else. Also, if you aspire to work here, dust up on your understanding of 2014 technology because that's what you'll be working with.

Ich arbeite bei National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (Vollzeit)

    Pros

I have been working at NGA for 3 years and so far the benefits are great. You get 3 hours a week to work out at the gym. You will meet some very smart and young co-workers.

    Kontras

Allow certain people to telework, not all. Management is terrible, but it's improving

    Pros

The pretty building, Starbucks, Pay, Benefits and some nice people abound. New Director seems to have the balls to get order in the court.

    Kontras

Fifteen years of experience so I can frankly state, about 70% of the leadership is poor. Engagement is poor. There is a lack of strategic direction and multiple offices doing the same work. The Human Development (the HR arm of NGA) organization uses bullying and intimidation methods to manage people. We have a new Director and it appears he will make positive change. However, it will take time to clean up the... "mess." Flatten the organization; the agency will be more efficient.

Treat individuals kindly but hold them accountable for their work. Understand priorities and execute. Treat everyone equally and without bias. Work to get rid of the Career Services structure as it stands currently. People don't want to feel imprisoned by a single position for years without the ability to move about.

    Pros

Great national security mission employing cutting edge technologies, supporting a global customer base, and informing national decision-makers.

    Kontras

The workforce encompasses a broad spectrum of knowledge and abilities. More senior employees and managers are often challenged by the junior employees who have a more current tech education and more relevant experience when it comes to understanding and employing new technologies or identifying new trends affecting the agency, its missions, and its customers.

    Rat an das Management

Require annual training in relevant technologies and trends. The current certification program for professional training and education lags far behind real-world technologies for generating products or providing services.

NGA is a great place to work. The Edge of Technology is NGA. NGA is the future of practical all encompassing Intelligence. NGA provides intelligence to every industry that reqires physical intelligence to make every major decisions.

    Kontras

I feel that that NGA intelligence contribution cannot be adequately overemphasied. NGA is the premier intelligance and is not given the credit it deserves NSA comes close.

    Rat an das Management

NGA is to be totally concealed. There is to much public attention to NGA. OPSEC.

    Pros

    - Important mission - work/life balance - education and training benefits - Beautiful building

    Kontras

    - Leadership that is plagued with controversy and IG investigations. - Promotion process is muddy and subjective. - Career services is a road block to career progression at best. - Wage limits hamstrings top performers to seek out private sector.

    Rat an das Management

Hold senior leaders accountable, don't just reassign them. See through decisions rather than moving on to the next big thing every 2-3 years.
