    Pros

    Last employment year was *2007.

    The work is straighforward.
Metroland had occasional company events that are family-friendly.

    Kontras

The nature of the job - physically sorting ads into newspapers, and carrying and delivering them to numerous houses - may not be for everyone.

Ich habe in Teilzeit bei Metroland Media Group gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Flexible hours, possibility for tips if someone’s feeling particularly generous

    Kontras

People don’t have to pay you for delivering, they spin it as “self-employment” so they don’t have to pay you (in fact, you pay them about $20 every three weeks for packaging the advertisements)

    Rat an das Management

Stop taking advantage of children who want to have a first job

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Metroland Media Group gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Recieved an extra two 'paid' days off.

Had two really good co workers

Typically 9-5 and it's rare if you need to stay late.

3 weeks vacation. Read the cons for more information on that.

Editorial work is changing for the better.

    Kontras

Print advertising is dying. They refuse to accept it.

The dailies are hemorrhaging money while under-cutting the community papers.

The digital products that they offer are 5 years behind what the rest of the advertising industry is doing.

In some markets, Metroland has more than 3 of its own companies fighting for the same client.

The only way to be successful and make money is to wait for your older co-workers to quit so you can recieve some of their account list.

They expects loyalty from their largest and most loyal clients but only continue to increase their rates without any real value being added.

Every 6 months there are VDP to get people to leave.

Vacation pay is only salary. You would need to get all your work done before you you take the time off. You need to have a backup person to do any additional work.

Moral is incredibly low. Everyone can see where the company is headed but are too comfortable to actually look for another job.

For the artwork of the ad, they have out-sourced a company out in India. There is a 12 hour turn around. A lot of the time the person working on the artwork doesn't understand or doesn't follow the instructions.

    Turnover is super high.

Management aren't leaders, they rule with an iron fist. There isn't any room for any creativity or to make suggestions. This will only put a target on your back.

There isn't a lot of money to be made here. Very few will actually make more that $60k a year.

Local businesses do not like the company and refuse to talk to us.

It's very sad to see what will happen to most of the people who work there that are expecting to retire with the company. LEAVE WHILE YOU CAN.

The company had a chance to succeed but they didn't adapt to the times. They really hoped that the internet was just a fad that would disappear and never actually invested in anything until it's too late.

Metroland makes the weirdest cuts to help save money. No Christmas parties, no work events, nothing that would help moral. It's very easy to find out how much the people at the top make. They have only reduced their bonuses.

The only experience that I have gained is how to cold call. Metroland is known for their boiler room sales tactics and other companies try and poach employees on that basis and not for any meaningful expertise.

There's so much more. Just stay away from this dying company and the print industry.

    Rat an das Management

Honestly, good luck. The only thing the company can do at this point is to try and keep their doors open for as long as possible.

    Pros

Opportunity looked great in the beginning...

    Kontras

A lot of favoritism and terrible gossip in the company. Totally unfair to sales reps and very quickly put you on a commission structure that would pay a 4 year old . Terrible morale, awful company!!

    Rat an das Management

Find another career and get out of the company.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Metroland Media Group gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

1-year guaranteed salary of about 50k - perfect window to find something better.

    Kontras

Toxic work environment, bad personalities in management roles, commission payout is not worth the level of work you need to do, they treat people badly and disrespectfully. Young people and new ideas are discouraged. They play the blame-game when things don't work out (which is daily), you will hate it. TRUST ME. avoid at all costs unless you absolutely need a job and can't find anything else.

    Rat an das Management

no advice can change the culture or the people.
