Ich arbeite seit mehr als einem Jahr bei Met Office (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Working in a global centre of Excellence for weather and climate services. The Met Office has a wide range of roles ranging from Technology to Science and so you learn a lot of new skills and knowledge. Salaries and benefits are good compared to many public sector bodies. There is access to the Civil Service Pension scheme. The Head Office in Exeter has a modern spacious environment with a restaurant, cafe and grounds to walk around. Staff are friendly and from a range of backgrounds and nationalities. There is a gym in Exeter and numerous clubs for staff to get involved in ranging from Brass bands to Language clubs.

    Kontras

You are asked by people daily what the weather is

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 3 Jahren bei Met Office (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Proud to be working for the Met Office for past 3 years. Management are eager and committed to developing talent within their team and the wider organization, with secondment opportunities as well as a multitude of training courses available to build on CPD. Met Office is strongly committed to its people and provides many benefits to support a healthy work/life balance to include amazing on site facilities and the opportunity to buy additional leave in excess of an already generous starting package of 27.5 days (increasing to 32.5 days after 5 years)

    Kontras

Always being blamed by friends and family when it rains!

    Pros

Great total package, pay competitive to similar roles in region but more than made up for by the work environment, onsite facilities and items such as the pension

    Kontras

Lacking a bit in diversity, although this does reflect the regions demographic

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 5 Jahren bei Met Office (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Good Civil service pension. Flexible working hours. Open to homeworking. Nice people (mostly).

    Kontras

It's very difficult to get anything done & you will feel bogged down by bureaucracy, endless pointless meetings & lack of necessary resource. The pay as a civil servant is way below competitive rates. If you work outside of Exeter H.Q. you will struggle to be included in the benefits most staff receive, (e.g. events, training & social, nice surroundings, even struggle to get basic upgrades to furniture, I.T. etc.). Although generally open to staff progression, outside of Exeter H.Q. you will struggle to find opportunities.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 3 Jahren bei Met Office (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Plenty of travel opportunities. Many internal job opportunities and relatively easy to switch between roles from within the organisation. Plenty of staff support from management. Offices are embracing modern working styles.

    Kontras

Some uncertainty with job security dependant on government funding and direction to a certain extent. Difficult to find positives about 24/7 shift working pattern.

Ich arbeite bei Met Office ()

    Pros

The Met Office has been a great place to build up my career but you get to a point where opportunities to develop and progress become limited. There is a great sense of camaraderie and family within the Met Office. The restaurant and gym are both good and there is a wide range of social clubs. The office can sometimes have the feel of a university campus about It, especially when there are charity fundraising events, Christmas fayre or band performances taking place. Met Office offer great work life balance with flexible working, good annual leave and good maternity and paternity provisions.

    Kontras

Met Office limit their investment in digital and It is a constant battle to keep fighting for support to grow their digital channels. There is very little turnover in senior management and most are home grown, this means there is little in the way of new ideas and exciting strategic thinking. This lack of turnover also makes progression into senior roles difficult. There is often disparity between scientists and business areas especially conflict around being scientifically correct versus making things usable and understandable to customers.
