Ich habe bei Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin gearbeitet -

    Pros

Summer hours. Hour lunch. Good stepping stone.

    Kontras

Low pay. Low raises. They try to tell you that business is not good in order to justify low raises but yet they continue to open new offices and expand business. Staff management is weak!

    Rat an das Management

Monitor the morale of the employees.

Ich habe bei Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin gearbeitet -

    Pros

There are a lot of great people working here, both attorney and support staff. Depending on what area of litigation you specialize in, it can be extremely welcoming or frigid and catty.

    Kontras

Low base salary and, in certain departments, there is drama.

    Rat an das Management

Don't pick sides. It discourages development.

    Pros

Great place to work when your attorneys are helpful -- every practice has its own quirks. Paralegals must go to training once a year which can be helpful. Depending on your supervisor, you can get some great feedback. Great coffee in the break room. Seminars with free lunch. Colleagues are great.

    Kontras

Firm is very political. Health benefits are not that great. Salary and raises are not that great -- they will justify not giving you a good raise by telling you the firm did not have a good year. Negotiate a higher salary from the beginning because you definitely will not get high percentage raises no matter how great you are. Be weary, they will start you much less than the region average for your position. ... They monitor your billable hours like a hawk -- if you don't meet them, they think something is wrong with you. They will try to push practice areas that you are not knowledgable in and expect you to figure it out without proper training. Overtime is a big no no.

Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin gearbeitet - Vollzeit

    Pros

Opportunity for good insurance defense work experience working shoulder to shoulder with some very fine, learned attorneys. Acceptable starting salary. Free coffee (all you can drink). On a departmental team basis, the work is enriching and collaborative. Responsibilities are myriad and self-directed generally.

    Kontras

Billing expectations for paralegals are rigorous and challenging, on par with associate attorney expectations. Outdated system of monitoring paralegals (and support staff) kills morale. Paralegals are considered professionals only to the extent that they garner billables for the firm. Paralegals are viewed as support staff rather than professional staff, which is a shock to the system. Most firms of this size... and caliber do not micromanage their paralegals to the extent that Marshall Dennehey does. Ostensibly, paralegals are viewed as support staff (assistants, clerks, messengers, receptionists) and must follow administrative rules like signing in and out in front of the "floor manager," who is always watching to see if you stray from the floor. No breaks are allowed - not even to step out for some fresh air or to grab a snack from the in-building C-store - and to do so will earn you a talk with and warning from the floor manager (who is a secretarial staff member). Overtime is strongly discouraged. The internal management hierarchy seems to sweat the small stuff to the point of preoccupation, staunchly enforcing rules like leaving the office floor, or not taking your lunch during prescribed hours, or forgetting to sign in or out, etc. Over several months this becomes annoying and almost petty, and effectively obliterates any sense of well-being, ownership and enjoyment of what could be an otherwise enriching, satisfying work experience. If you have come from a law firm or corporate setting where as a paralegal you were given certain latitudes to conduct your day in your own way with the expectation that you are a professional, while maintaining your productivity and billables, you will be sadly disappointed in the complete opposite mindset at Marshall Dennehey.

    Rat an das Management

Rethink paralegal roles, expectations and internal rules so that they are more in step with what the paralegal profession is about - a vital extension of a litigator's practice with the training, education, experience and knowledge, who, when properly used can enhance and generate significant income to support the firm in general.

Ich arbeite bei Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin -

    Pros

Hour lunch break. Relatively easy work. Secretarial staff is paid well.

    Kontras

Management is horrible. Support staff is treated infairly by management and attorneys. You are not allowed to leave the floor for any reason. You have to account for every minute. NO employee perks. Paralegals are way underpaid and overworked. Management hires people with low salary in a file clerk position. Then promote them to paralegal on same salary. No raise. Great business/ law firm- bad for employees

    Rat an das Management

Hire a manager that knows how to do their job, not just pretend. Happy employees= successful business.

Ich habe für mehr als 10 Jahre bei Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin gearbeitet - Vollzeit

    Pros

Opportunity to gain experience for entry level employees. Not much recognition for the higher experienced senior paralegals.

    Kontras

Too much management made it difficult to know who you were to report to for issues, concerns, or simple requests.

    Rat an das Management

    Streamline the hierarchy.
