Ich habe in Vollzeit bei METEN English gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Great materials, students are self-motivated and awesome. Other teachers I worked with were great supportive people. Found the support staff to be so willing and ready to help. Really enjoyed my time working here! Learned a lot during my time here about teaching and teaching methods.

    Kontras

Can be challenging teaching so many classes, but small class sizes made it ok and got lots of experience in classroom hours, so it's not so bad.

    Rat an das Management

Be more selective about who you hire as teachers. Some complainers are just too lazy to do the work.

Given room to grow as a teacher with support from within Meten
    Students are great!
    Paid on time

    Kontras

    Usually have to work weekends

    Pros

You can make your own schedule and there is no pressure from TAs in this regard. The courseware is generally good and the platform is also easy to use. Students are also generally very nice, though this has nothing to do with the company itself.

    Kontras

As students look for teachers and book them, you are not guaranteed a set number of classes. In my first few months I was only teaching 10-20 classes at 100 yuan per class, so start of and work your way to getting regular students before you can reliably earn a secure income.

TAs are great if you have a problem with the system or something that affects the client. However, they can often be overworked and so if you have a complaint about anything, it often goes unheard.

    Pros

They will hire you with no experience and pay for a TEFL certificate for you.
    Okay pay.
Ask for 16000 rmb per month before tax if they quote you less than that.

    Kontras

The management is pretty incompetent, the amount of support and respect you will get differ massively depending on the center you work for.
Very little to no room for promotion.
You will be under constant scrutiny, lesson observations etc.
Management will listen to your opinions/complaints and then ignore them.
Management might do things that are illegal like try to give you a longer length of probation than is allowed by the government, or withhold/ slander you in a letter of reccomendation making it difficult to get another job. again it depends on which exact manager you deal with.
The management is pretty greedy, they will mislead students and care much more about the money than anything else.
You might be paid less than your coworkers who do the exact same job with same experience unless you negotiate a good starting salary (i would suggest asking for 16,000 rmb per month as long as you are native english)
Very fast turnover rate due to management and pay

    Rat an das Management

Actually listen to your employees opinions
Don't just use your employees as tools to make money for you
If you pay better people will stay with the company longer

    Pros

None. This place is disgusting. Male teachers date their students (even the ones in high school), they bully the other western female teachers. Management does nothing.

    Kontras

Everything. They mess with your paycheck every month. The male teachers flirt with and date students and Chinese employees. They bully the western female teachers. You do not get vacation time you have earned. You do not have health insurance. The curriculum is terrible.

    Rat an das Management

Fire all current management and start over. This place is disgusting.

    Negative Prognose

Ich habe in Teilzeit bei METEN English gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Students were wonderful and very enthusiastic about learning.
Hours were great and sessions were usually booked.. Pay was okay.

    Kontras

The company does NOT pay for work rendered.
TA's can be bad and good. Unfortunately, there are more bad than good. Beware.
Payment is supposed to be on the 15 and when it isn't, you have no recourse to get it paid.
Educate TA's to actually be helpful and not rude or embarrassing. The horrible TA I had actually blocked me from the site because I complained after several attempts to get paid.
Have them attend leadership courses or actually take the courses recommended for students regarding leadership or business practices. Maybe the TA's and recruiters could learn from the students.
Be more communicative and not ignore questions and support assistance pleas. Not a way to run a company.

    Rat an das Management

Teachers teach because they care about the students. Why not run a business that is supposed to have caring staff BE caring. Educate the TA's on the customer is always right and to go above and beyond to help. If you cannot do that, you will continue to fail. Actually pay when you're supposed to and don't hide when you owe that money.

    Pros

Seemed to be the most professional of all the interviews that I had (not saying much)

    Kontras

They told me I would work no more than 35 hours a week - later I saw in an introduction pamphlet that I would be required to work 40 hours a week.
In the interview they told me I could use my 10 day vacation together but later told me I would have to split it up (5 days after 6 months, 5 days at the end of the contract).

    Rat an das Management

    Get organized!
