    Pros

    > Some great people and talent at the Department Head and below levels. > Bonus' are paid in cash. > Flat organization so you have opportunities to work closely with other departments daily as well as on firm-wide projects. > Conflict resolution and managing constant change skills are honed.

    Kontras

    > Ineffective management by executive level and Board. People skills and knowledge base lacking. > Investment process is broken. Most of the "investors" on staff during my tenure have left. > Time and resources are wasted to a variety of projects that are decided "on the fly" by the CEO. > One person compensation committee and very personal annual reviews not tied to accomplishments.

    CEO has to go if anything is to change. Top down micro management hasn't worked well. Personally, thought, they may just want to run for the hills.

    Pros

    The pay is good, but consider it combat pay. There are some very talented people at this firm, but they try to stay under the radar to avoid any interaction with the CEO. As a result, any meaningful and creative ideas are stymied.

    The CEO, May Seeman, is a certifiable nut job and has serious mental issues. In fact, the employees have a name for her alter ego and check in with the EA to find out which person showed up for the day. She is the most unethical and immoral person I have ever worked for. As an example; the firm (read CEO) has been sued numerous time and has lost every time. The Board is completely ineffective and keeps her in her...

    Pros

    Most people are nice and collegial. There are quite a few who have been with the company for a long time.

    The environment can be at times depressing. Due to an overly micro-management style, there is a lack of openness, freedom and creativity at this place.

    The firms manages internal assets so has minimal regulatory review. The parent company is very risk averse so does not drive the firm to make reckless investments

    Kontras

    It is the subsidiary of the German parent and receives direction from them. It is undergoing a multi-year centralization project. This drives projects and cedes control of many functions to the parent firm, which impacts morale

    There are wonderful people who work here (except at the executive level). I feel badly for them because the business is not worthy of such good people.

    small organization, close interaction with portfolio manager (at least till 2009), nice people around in ops, quants, PMs

    Kontras

    under pay fresh graduate, tiny bonus, annual review make you feel bad on purpose, very limited group transfer. most importantly, it does not like a wall street firm, more like a German company has a branch in US
