It's harder to stand out as a "star" because you are surrounded by such strong partners

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

I have been working at Kimley-Horn for a little over a year and have been thoroughly impressed with how superior this firm is above their competitors. Kimley-Horn provides consistent/excellent services to their clients. My supervisors are always encouraging and provides constant support and guidance.

Some of the other Pros are:
-Company that invest in their people (Amazing benefits, perks, bonuses etc)
    -Plenty of room for growth
    - Inclusive, collaborative environment
    - Company that prides itself in providing exceptional service

    Kontras

During the hiring process, HR offered salary that was lower than expected. She mentioned that was the best she could do but would include a signing bonus. However, I found out later, my coworker ( who was hired 6 months after me) with the same title was offered $6.5K+ more for the exact same years of experience and credentials.

Please be consistent with your salary negotiation.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

The people are amazing and fun to work with. There is no other company where you can build more long-term wealth.

    Kontras

They don’t encourage you to get more than a Bachelor’s degree because you don’t need it to be successful here.

    Rat an das Management

Have the Board of Directors and Management Committee interact with the YPs on a more regular basis.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Kimley-Horn is a great place for those looking for internships or a first job out of college. You will be challenged. There will be lots of great training opportunities. You will learn far more about how the consulting industry works than at other firms. The benefits are beyond amazing. Easily the best in the industry.

I always felt like the firm was well managed and that there would be good growth opportunities for those who do their part and contribute.

Though I’ve been working elsewhere for a few years now, I often ask myself if I really made the right decision in leaving.

    Kontras

Work/life balance is challenging as a consultant in general, but can be very challenging at Kimley-Horn. It is an extra effort firm. You will work many hours, and you’ll have to make up your PTO. This isn’t so much a con if you are prepared to accept this reality.

I left as a result of some toxic office politics and felt the need for a fresh start. Sometimes I feel like the politics can get tough in a highly competitive environment. I don’t consider this a reflection on the entire firm though.

    Rat an das Management

Look out for the younger employees who might be struggling a little to get their career off the ground. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn gearbeitet

    Pros

Great people in every office. Benefits were good.

    Kontras

Most of the people here when asked will tell you they don’t care for the work/life balance. These people are split into a couple groups. Those who joined right out of college and those who came from other companies. If you’ve come from another company you’ll at least have the advantage of knowing when it’s time to leave because between this and the toxic management it gets very stressful. Fortunately for them they hire a lot of fresh grads which works out great. They’re kool-aid parties are good at brainwashing newbies into the idea that KH is the greatest thing that has ever happened to the consulting world.

If you’re anything other than civil turn away right now and never look back. Being either a mechanical or electrical in this firm will leave you feeling more like a glorified electrician or HVAC contractor than anything else. Speaking with an electrical once they mentioned that in the entire firm (approx 3000) there were 20 of them total (aka zero knowledge pool).

In the end if you’re a civil, you don’t care about your personal life, you don’t care about unpaid OT, and you’re willing to work an excessive amount of hours then this is the place for you.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

They paid me average annual salary and I got a free ham on Thanksgiving once.

    Kontras

I worked 50 hours a week when light and 60 hours a week when busy. They hired senior professionals and give them each one or two junior engineers to do all the work for them. The senior engineer gets mad at the junior engineer when he lacks the knowledge of a mid-level hire. The junior engineer is young and impressionable so he tries harder and harder until they burn out and quit or they see a light at the end of this dark career tunnel.

I wrote this review while I was employed there but never posted it as I was afraid maybe it was just me not being able to fit in at KHA but now that I'm out I realize that I was right all along. I started at a new company a months ago and can say it was one of the best career decisions of my life. You don't have to work like a guilty dog to feel accomplished in life!

    Rat an das Management

You're growing in the industry and your brand is becoming more recognizable. It's not just the clients who are talking, but other engineers in the industry. Word is getting out that this is a terrible place to work straight out of college. Hire mid levels to manage office work flow and kick up the first year bonuses.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Kimley-Horn (Über 5 Jahre)

    Pros

The benefits are incredible. Health insurance for a family of 3 is $30/month and they give a significant amount towards your HSA. Great work environment where supervisors care about their employees growth and development. Encourage me to make my career look like what I want it to and support all my efforts.

    Kontras

Work-Life balance is difficult at times but when you are in the consulting field you have to accept that. KH acknowledges the inherent difficulties and offers programs like LIFT to help ease that burden.

    Rat an das Management

Keep you employees at the forefront of your mind and continually acknowledge their efforts.
