    - You get to work with and learn from talented, highly skilled people. - The salary is above average. - There are a performance bonus and increment scheme. - Christmas parties are the absolute best (one of the reasons I stayed). - Direct management is easy to work with and reasonable. - There is an investment in people.

    - Upper management is completely disconnected from the workforce. - It is a "boys club" culture and who you know to get ahead. - Promotions are difficult and almost none existing unless if you are with the "in- crowd". - The good people do not stay long (a few months or a year) and they move on. - There are a lot of people that want to be in charge, however, no one wants to take responsibility. -... Communication is severely lacking (from upper management) - do as you are told cloak and dagger stuff. - Independent thinking outside the box is frowned upon. - There is a lack of knowledge sharing, and it is an "everyone for themselves" culture.

    For the business, it is like the ship is adrift, with no one at the wheel. Employees give 100% however this is not recognized by upper management (the C level management). Employees are treated as disposable - the COO announced two months ago that about 70% - 80% of the internal IT function will be outsourced, almost an entire (global) department is made redundant. This is a recipe for disaster, creating fear and... anxiety in other departments. I would not be surprised if a lot of staff leave next year (loyalty to the company = 0). There are numerous examples on the web why outsourcing fails, in this case it will be: a) If this is done as a cost-saving exercise going with the big-bang approach (wiping out frontline customer-facing services) this WILL fail. b) Lack of communication with the business. All I can say is Good Luck, the people that you are loosing and the commitment they put into the business, you will not easily find again and an outsourced company will not give you the same service level or commitment. The damage has been done and there is no turning back from this. Companies that failed because of the above mentioned: -- J.P. Morgan and IBM -- US Navy and EDS -- Virgin Airlines Grounded by IT Provider Navitaire -- Royal Bank of Scotland I hope when this fails all upper management and decision-makers are made to walk the same plank, like what the people sacrificed for the gamble did.

    Great pay, and food work life balance

    Kontras

    Have to wear suite and tie everyday. In IT this is unheard of. The culture is becoming too formal. They also have a policy against working from home.

    Pros

    Benefits are great although the 401k match vests after two years. Their compensations tends to be on par or higher than average.

    The headline says it all. Working and walking to their offices is like a trip back to 1990. I was a child in 1990 but I can only image. From top down things are micromanaged and processes are inefficient and some completely pointless. Not to mention their aging technology and .net apps. Yes, they still have a sever room. The culture and company are not in line with a modern day work environment: most of their... employees are older and have longevity there. Their turnover rate is high.
