Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Hill+Knowlton Strategies gearbeitet

    Pros

    Kontras

    Teilweise sehr hohe Arbeitsbelastung, die Bezahlung könnte besser sein, Weiterbildung und Weiterentwicklung sind ausbaufähig, stattdessen eher Training on the Job;

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Hill+Knowlton Strategies

    Pros

-Renumeration and benefits are pretty great
-Only two people here procreate and raise children of their own

    Kontras

-The office is a menagerie of egotists and sycophants
-Too many ugly personalities in the office who truly believe they are superior human beings
-Politicking is commonplace and rife (which is the main reason turnover is so high)
-Strong bully culture perpetuated by management and cliques with delusions of grandeur
    - Too much time spent on gossip and speaking ill of clients and fellow colleagues
-Kindness, if one is fortunate enough to experience it, is merely a facade and one should be forewarned

    Rat an das Management

Advice to management? Management does not take advice from anyone.

    Pros

Good exposure to big name accounts and fame of a network agency. Great place to start off your career, but not a good place to stay in.

    Kontras

Agency size has been steadily on the decline, from a healthy size of 25+ in 2017 to a mere 16 presently after a mass exodus in 2018. Average tenure here in the agency is less than a year.

Directors (or what we call team leads) have been leaving over the years faster than the management can replace them. This has caused miscommunication of SOPs within teams, lack of training for new/junior team members, poor and uneven distribution of workload and lack of leadership. The remaining team members are tasked to shoulder the workload of those who have left, with empty promises of more resources coming along the way.

While the MD is brilliant and charming on her good days, she is emotionally charged, manipulative and verbally abusive towards her subordinates. For many whom have left, resigning has been a frustrating process as the MD takes resignations personally and will berate employees who choose to leave. She is known to conceal and withhold facts of employees' resignation from clients, claiming that they are 'on leave' when they have actually left the firm; or claiming they were fired or removed from the team, when they have simply resigned.

Birds of the same feather flock together - the two remaining directors within the firm - one a longest serving director, and another who joined late in 2018 - are known to terrorise employees, adding to the toxic culture at H+K.

The longest serving director tends to flout her authority, disregarding input from her subordinates and shouting at them, especially interns and executives. Interns under her have even elected to shorten their internship with H+K. The other said director has little regard for her team's time and demands work to be submitted according to her own timeline, even if they are unreasonable to her team members. Rather than fostering a conducive culture, she conquers and divides existing members, bringing in former employees from her ex-agency to bolster her standing within H+K.

And the reason these two are still around? They pander to the MD, who bathes in the attention.

    Rat an das Management

Many would have thought that management from the regional APAC office (they are just next door!) would have be concerned about the high turnover rate and toxic culture at the Singapore office, but the APAC chairman, CFO and HR all turn a blind eye towards it, given that the MD of the Singapore office continues to bring in revenue for the company.

If people are the biggest resource, act like it.

    Pros

Network agency fame, decent client portfolio and size of accounts, and accessibility to town are the pros. But the cons FAR outweigh the pros, making this agency an unworthy trade of time and expertise for those who want to build long term careers.

    Kontras

Thuggish and unprofessional management conduct – MD publicly berates and undermines employees and clients alike with profanities, insults and fear-mongering, verbally and emotionally abusing everyone with her erratic moods and violent tendencies.
Questionable ethics – embellishing facts, favouring bootlicking over merit, encouraging disrespect and disharmony among clients/partners/employees with gossiping/personal attacks/manipulative behaviour behind others' backs.
Disorganized – poor resource and account allocation, no structure or training, no regard for employee welfare or retention except for those who suck up and tolerate abuse, high turnover with average tenures of six months or less leading to client frustration and attrition.
Fake, hostile, cliquish and unnecessary politicking – rampant backstabbing, selfish, overall unconducive environment for meaningful work and professional development.
Bad apples and outlook – a long serving but mediocre and negative director is enabled to terrorize her colleagues through sabotaging, rude shouting and refusal to admit mistakes simply because she’s got nowhere else to go, reflecting not only her lack of credibility but also epitomizing the toxic culture and backward trajectory of the business.

    Rat an das Management

The rot starts at the top. With 30 people leaving a 30-40 strong firm and the so-called digital team collapsing within a year, get a clue.
