Ich habe für mehr als 5 Jahre bei Health Market Science gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Learned a lot from handling the company from a small start up to a Medium sized company with more than 650,000USD in Revenue

    Kontras

Working as a founder in a startup was a struggle at the very beginning. It was hard to bring the pieces of the company to whole

    Rat an das Management

Ensure a great organizational structure and assign responsibilities efficiently and effectively

    Pros

Good people, lots of room to learn, interesting clients

    Kontras

Little room to grow - in a constant cycle of more responsibilities with little to no upward mobility. Once you were pigeonholed into a role, it was impossible to change roles so the work became monotonous and boring. Little vision for the company other than acquisition, resulting in initiatives to become disorganized or abandoned altogether.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 5 Jahren bei Health Market Science (Vollzeit)

    Pros

    - Flexible scheduling - Ability to work remote - Managers respect work-life balance - Interesting projects - Great colleagues Since acquisition by LexisNexis Risk Solutions: - Newly rebuilt office with many on-site amenities (cafe, gym) - More opportunities for advancement within the larger organization

    Kontras

    - Lots of uncertainty and upheaval due to the acquisition - Lots of culture clash is slowing teams down as they re-learn how to work together - Health insurance plans offered by the acquiring company are not as robust as those previously offered by HMS - Communication during a time of uncertainty and upheaval has ranged from excellent to extremely poor

    Rat an das Management

Keep up with the good communications, especially proactive communication ahead of any coming changes. Continue to support and bolster the team-based culture that was one of the company's greatest strengths prior to the acquisition. Look into better health plans as the current offerings are unaffordable.

    Pros

If you're incompetent, know Excel and can speak buzzwords, you'll command a six figure salary here and move up the corporate ladder.

    Kontras

Where to begin? At the time of purchase, HMS had a team of great engineers, whether it was software, systems, DevOps, or even QA. Once Lexis Nexis took over, everyone with talent ran out the door to get away. Instead of replacing those people, Lexis Nexis decided it would be a great idea to bring in a bunch of "Project Managers" who had no idea what anything was, yet somehow had strict deadlines. They continued to... push sales to sell broken products that were rigged together and highly unstable. Instead of rewarding the people who worked hard to put together what they could so sales could get their commission, they treated them like worthless humans who were easily replaced. Once Lexis finally realized that there was no possible way things could continue this way, they decided to try sending up their "home grown engineers" from their offices. That lasted about a week as the "engineers" at Lexis Nexis had no idea what about any modern technology. These were people who experts in Apache and COBOL and looked amazed at the idea of using anything that was post RHEL4 or C++. When you spoke modern technology to these people like the ELK stack, Ruby on Rails, Cassandra, Hadoop, etc., they would look at you like you were speaking a foreign language. The upper management of Lexis likes to come around often and throw their weight around and try and show who is boss. Yet these people have no solutions for any problems and do nothing but talking about hurricanes and their racecars. They are so out of touch with reality and it comes down from the top starting with Lee Revis and his "Corporate Communications" emails that make less sense than portions of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Speaking of Las Vegas, the company sends it's sales team all over the county with a no limit credit card. Meanwhile, back at the office, where people who CREATE what these people sell, are once in a while rewarded with free pizza on a Friday, so long as they have their timesheets completed and have asked their managers permission to get up from their chair. Individuality and personality are highly frowned upon at this establishment and you're expected to be thankful for still being able to wear jeans and having coffee provided to you. Higher ups from the original HMS have been brainwashed into believing Lexis Nexis actually cares about any of them and praise anything that Lexis does, such as putting an AC unit next to a switch rack. And the number on con about working here is that it is in fact, a con. 80%+ of what the company delivers to clients runs on an antiquated system called "The Pump". However, there will soon be nobody left who knows ANYTHING about this system. Once it breaks, the company will no longer be able meet client deliverables and production will come to a grinding halt. Keep in mind that all of this has happened in less than ONE YEAR! Things will only get worse as more people leave and more things break. If you don't believe any of this, just ask the people at Enclarity, the last failure of a purchase that Lexis Nexis had.

Start actually caring about the people who work for you and not just the ones who party with clients and do the exact same things that you fire others for.

    Pros

    Flexible work environment, casual dress

    Kontras

Very "intelegent" people with no communication skills or ability to think past the data stack. No concern about the users or about User Interface design. Constant change of direction if any is ever given. Lots of egos, when challenged in a professional manner they often create hostile work environment rather than realize or fix problems/issues. Very clicky, half the company is related to the former CEO. Total... chaos.

    Rat an das Management

Allow people to do their jobs, take advice from those who are experts at what you've hired them to be. Be more transparent, information is only shared at the last minute and there is never any consensus after meetings....just follow up meetings to debate the decisions from the past meeting. Listen to your employees, MGMT is very secretive and downright respectful.

    Pros

They expect employees to be smart, mature self-starters. If you fit that description, they are really easygoing and trust you to get your work done without micromanaging you or clock-watching. Flexible about hours and working from home. Pretty good benefits for this day and age. If you are good at your job, there will be opportunities to move up. Initial salaries can be competitive if you know what to ask for and... can back it up. Interesting software and a lot of great proprietary tools to learn on the job.

    Kontras

Raises are tiny, though that's how they are pretty much everywhere these days. If you want more money, you need to move up or move around. Could use more structured training. There is still a some uncertainty after the merger; it's difficult to say what the company will look like in a year.

    Rat an das Management

Try not to let us lose the HMS corporate culture as we continue to get absorbed into LexisNexis
