Ich habe bei Halliburton gearbeitet ()

    Pros

Great pay and Benefits are great. Also, Company is trying to keep up with evolving technology. Agile technology is a plus.

    Kontras

Managers get away with abusive behaviors. Company is very frugal in investing in its employees knowledge base. There isn’t enough room for growth.

    Rat an das Management

    Positive Prognose

    Pros

A lot of opertunities for advancement. Engineering staff is very down to earth and laidback relative to other engineers.

    Kontras

Very dependent on employees to move across the city or a new city all together.

    Pros

Opportunity to move around (geographically as well as areas of interest). Excellent benefits e.g. insurance, 401k. Interesting work and good, hardworking colleagues. Lots of classes and training that can be put to use elsewhere. Expertise gained will transfer well outside. The range of services provided is huge and you can get a broad view of the energy industry.

    Kontras

Salaries at the low end of the range for the industry, much lower than operating companies. Bonus is pretty much a mirage. HAL has some good managers but they are the exception rather than the rule.

    Rat an das Management

    See Cons above.

    Pros

Very safety conscious. Corporate culture is ethical and strong emphasis of maintains a strong code of business conduct.

    Kontras

Oftentimes, non technical persons make technics decisions based of very flawed social theories. (my opinion)

    Rat an das Management

While bean counting may please shareholders, it more often than not, alienate employees.

    Pros

-Good exposure to world-class technology -Good experience to have on resume -If you are productive and technically sound, there is lots you can do in terms of IP, writing publications etc. -Company enjoys a good reputation in the oil-field, thanks to some good work done by people in the 1900s ... current crop of people leaves a lot to be desired

    Kontras

-very, very politically oriented. Unless you're part of the "club", you will not get promoted or even get career opportunities...during lean times, people who are not part of the "club" are most likely to get laid off. -Company says that "You own your career" .. in reality, the company owns you .. don't speak up about what you want to do .. I have been told by a Technology Manager that many times you have to do... what the management wants you to do. -Everyone who is a Team Lead and up, wants to run the show their own way, and are only concerned about appearing in the good books of those higher than them. -Too much of a top-down culture.. people below the team-lead position are essentially slaves who don't get much say -Very senior management may be good, but the middle management across the board in Technology are horrible ... only there to dance and shine in the eyes of the higher-ups. -Some of the technical folks are really dumb, but that could be true anywhere.

    Rat an das Management

-Create a direct pathway between the very senior management and the lower folks (below the team lead). You do not know what the middle management is doing to your PSL. -Test the technical strengths of your middle management even though they are in Management and not the Technical path. Chances are they will turn out to be the bad apples of the lot. -Test the integrity and core values of the middle management.... Chances are they will turn out to be bad apples who are giving the technical staff a rotten time.

    Pros

Though not paid wonderfully compared to the national average for my education and experience, for the area the compensation was excellent. Until the organization goes through a management change (every few years), the message from management on what to focus on stays relatively constant. The local management was quite flexible for personal needs .I was given the leeway to get done what needed to get done.

    Kontras

As with any company in the oil industry, it is cyclical and at times goes through massive layoffs to decrease cost when money is tight. Sometimes the design teams and field personnel are resistant to change even when introducing cost efficiencies into the program.
