Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei Goodshop gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Goodshop is a casual, warm & friendly place to work. The company's core goals and strategy are simple, fixed and restated in each company meeting. The CEO and Founders give staff the latitude and space to execute against the strategy without micromanagement. CEO and Founders are highly available accessible for discussion and feedback as needed.

    Kontras

The company has not benefited from recent employee turnover. Accuracy in reporting systems has been consistently deprioritized, probably for years, and has got to be fixed.

    Rat an das Management

Find ways to recognize and reward each employee individually, retaining the core staff right now is critical to the future.

    Pros

Cool product, in concept. Money is given to charity.

    Kontras

    - Founders and highest leadership are terrifyingly hands off, but willing to throw a wrench into anyone's work at any time. - This company is unwilling to do right by their product. There is no UI or UX designers, and it doesn't take a scientist to know that there are serious flaws in the user experience. It is stuck in a different, ugly, unmanageable era. - Significant layoffs in January, and someone has... quit every single week (mostly engineers) since then. No acknowledgement from senior management. - So few engineers that nothing can get done in any reasonable amount of time. The dude in charge of engineering left and there is clearly nothing going on to replace him of anyone else. Seems like that entire department is going to run on fumes until nothing is left. - Clearly this company is in financial dire straits and the senior management is going to ignore things until they correct themselves (impossible) or the company folds - Build new products that don't take off right away and spend tons of resources on those while neglecting the core business, which is scattered enough on its own. Someone at the top needs to pick a direction for the core product and corral teams into focusing on it. Otherwise this company will surely die. - Pretty much everyone is looking for a new job, so I would not consider working here. Even if you are desperate - you won't find any job security here.

    Pros

Some of the people on the team that are actually executing the work are awesome and worthy of better jobs.

    Kontras

Sadly most of the reviews on here do a good job at summing up the lack of talent in senior leadership positions. It's one thing if there is just one poor hire in a senior position but the fact is the leadership across the entire organization lacks creativity, passion, and some basic intelligence that has created a pretty poor work environment and an even crappier site. The CEO barely shows up for work and when he... does, he has a cavalier attitude of indifference to everything. He's pushed to hire managers underneath him who bring in no value and instead create a frustrating work environment for subordinates. People are constantly leaving and it's been a real struggle to keep motivated in such a bad work environment.

    Pros

No standard work hours, come in whenever you want, leave whenever you want

    Kontras

This company is the epitome of a company that's on the course of self destruction. It's really unfortunate that most of senior management have complete lack of knowledge and basic skills required to hold a job. They are so unbelievably obtuse that most of the other hardworking people in the company are in awe of how they advanced so far in their career by sitting back in their chairs and doing ZERO work, maybe we... should all learn from that? The Marketing department is probably the biggest joke among all the employees, it's hilarious that everything they've tried so far to "engage the audience" or "increase traffic" have ended in complete failures, results are so embarrassingly poor each time that their only answer is to generate more terrible ideas that probably would've worked back when the dinosaurs still roamed the earth. WHY do they keep these people around you ask? Great question, one of many you'll never have an answer to. Not a bad place to be if you want to have a steady paycheck, get to pick your own titles and have the IQ of an empty bag of potato chips. This company definitely won't last long...

    Pros

I've worked several startups in the Valley and can tell you that Goodshop is best of all worlds. The team is intelligent, caring and fun, the culture is positive and the mission helps people (both to save money and support their cause). The leadership is respectful and most importantly, listens. Everyone is committed to making this a huge success. Lastly, I really enjoy the fact that I am given the autonomy to... pursue my own projects and improve our product.

The company grew pretty fast over the past few years and that came with a few growing pains. The good news is a number of really smart, experienced people have joined the company and these challenges are largely behind us.

    Pros

    - Pay is good. Location is great in the heart of FiDi: close to lots of public transport, easy to go out to eat or shop at lunch. Catered lunch once a week, lots of chip-type snacks and sodas. Macbook Air, couches. Dress as casually as you want. Easy hours: you'll never have to stay past 5pm. - Some of the best team members I've had. Really cool and friendly people in most departments. - A decent stepping... stone toward a better position somewhere else. Just be careful not to get attached, because it's not worth it. It's a good place to get paid a lot while job searching, once you realize the Glassdoor reviews were right. Allow yourself to relax, knowing this is only a temporary position, and you'll save yourself a lot of stress until that better gig comes along.

    Kontras

    - Small, family-owned business that is technologically and design-wise stuck in the mid-2000s. It could be massive leaps and bounds ahead of where it is but the owners have a tight squeeze on actually improving the core product for reasons no one understands. - The founders / owners simply do not care about their product, their employees, or their users one bit. They are laissez-faire about their insane employee... turnover rate, they completely disregard the horrible user experience, and they have no idea what their own brand is. They are simultaneously overbearing and utterly disengaged, with bizarre narcissistic and jealous tendencies that trickle down to favoritism and hiring decisions. - Total lack of a cohesive brand experience makes the site untrustworthy. It's a great concept but with terrible execution and really ugly design, no way appealing to the conscious millennial crowd they want to attract. Stop focusing on building links through spam and start focusing on building a BRAND. Give users instant updates, update the design and awful user experience. - Total lack of concern for or focus on optimal user experience. They know most users come to the site just for coupons, and that they have very few users who give back, but they don't care to fix the UX issues that make their site seem like a scam: no store visit confirmations, no communication when you've made a purchase thru Goodshop or used a Goodshop coupon. They wonder why other sites get more (and devoted) users, but instead of focusing on better content and a more trustworthy user experience, they decide instead to proudly spam Facebook for (yes, black hat) SEO purposes ... while also using SEO techniques that were outdated five years ago, like paying content mills for link building rather than actually creating better content. Work to get contextual links from authoritative media sites instead of relying on content mills (who pay their writers terribly, by the way). - Constantly developing new products instead of focusing on making the current one the best possible. - Baffling why with a founder who is an MSNBC anchor, there is zero PR or usage of media connections to promote the site. Social media too could be utilized to an amazing potential here, but the current approach is meek. Start creating quality content, including social media — utilize a strategist who actually knows how to strategize. - The haphazard and chaotic approach to product and branding is not disruptive, just messy.

    Pros

Great Things about Goodshop 1) Goodshop donates every-time a member makes a purchase on a qualified deal on Goodshop. Giving is baked into the company DNA. You have to make money to give money, so there is an interest in making money to grow the company. 2) Smart people, nice people, people who can be themselves at work. 3) Profitable. Goodshop is tossed back and forth on the winds of SEO and Google search,... but it’s a solid business with plenty of growth opportunity. The SEO techniques are not “black hat” - it’s all normal industry best practices. There are a few projects underway to diversify the dependency on SEO.

    Kontras

Goodshop Challenges 1) Culture issues. It’s a top down firefighting culture. Zero transparency. They hire smart peeps, tell them nothing about what is going on and treat them like they got off the short bus. 2) The SEO is a sharp guy, but he is a bit distracted. He seems to be primarily focused on “managing up” to the investors and is not great at communicating to the rank and file. He has hired a couple of... his friends who are not overly productive. 3) Engineering leadership is low on both leadership and engineering. Engineers are average but spoiled like they are coding GODS. 4) It’s very suspicious for an LLC to hand out stock options with no declared intent toward merger or IPO, and with no declaration of income or funds removed/retained. The employees are smart enough to work that out.

Continue to improve transparency, leadership and provide management training. People tend to imitate the behavior they see at the top - so if you have some bad habits there expect them to be magnified lower down the pyramid.

    Pros

Company is profitable which many other companies in the recent economic climate can't claim. Company must be doing something right to be profitable when other companies are closing their doors. Goodshop is a mission driven organization that offers employees much room for learning and growth. Many employees have moved from one functional area to another and have been able to learn a lot and grow in their areas of... interest. The company offers some good perks/benefits and great opportunities for employees to give back. Recent changes to vacation and sick time policies have actually increased amount of time off for employees and allow flexibility when needed for more work-life balance. The people are are amazing, smart and very passionate and driven.

We are a growing and changing company and with growth and change there is pain. Company is not perfect but management team seems genuinely invested in making this company better. Communication can improve on all levels and we need a little more structure as company continues to scale and grow but there is a lot of opportunity to transform this company into a GREAT company!

    Rat an das Management

Be open to honest feedback and put words into action. Hire top talent to continue helping the company transform from a scrappy start-up to a mature high functioning organization. Be honest, open and sincere as you can be. Be the change you want to see within the company.

I don't even know where to begin... if you're thinking about accepting an offer here, my biggest and most sincere advice to you is that you DON'T, it'll be the best decision of your life. There are plenty of other companies that you can work at that will actually value you as an employee. I'm very confused about where all the 5-star reviews are coming from, honestly, genuinely confused, given that all my former... coworkers are so unhappy here. Most of the people sitting in management positions have absolutely NO IDEA what they're doing, which makes me question how they got hired in the first place... oh wait, it's through referral, referral from other managers who don't know what they're doing, and this causes a chain of people sitting up high with no skill, no proper mindset on how to be good managers and no regard for others' opinions. Goodshop, the place where you're disrespected and undervalued as an employee, but if you have zero skills and think you're amazing at doing nothing and listening to no one, this is a great place to be! The good thing that comes out of this is you get to really work on polishing up your resume, gain amazing experience at bs-ing, and wear different hats, or masks rather.
