Ich habe bei Fund for the Public Interest gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

the people you meet (for the most part) are incredible, responsibility, ability to manage people from a young age. You also really develop some valuable life skills that you can apply to anything later on in life. Despite what they tell you, canvassing employs the same skillset as really talented salespeople. If you can learn how to canvass, you can learn to do anything.

    Kontras

What they require young people to do is truly mind-boggling. I got a job full-time right outside of college and I was asked to relocate, thrown in the thick of running a canvass office with little/no training on recruitment, staff management, or fundraising. I was told I needed to canvass 4-5 days/week, 4:00pm- 9:00pm at night in a foreign city by myself.. in the winter. All the while, I needed to work a typical 8:00am-4:00pm...

Ich arbeite seit weniger als einem Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Vollzeit

    Pros

Honestly who else is going to let 20 year olds take on so much responsibility? I’ve learned, grown, and done so much I never thought was possible. The people working here are amazing!

    Kontras

The hours are crazy like 70-80 a week in the summer. We are constantly understaffed as a director team and it shows.

    Rat an das Management

We’ve been able accomplish so much this summer but could do even more with a few more hands. We’ve all had to step up in major ways to manage it all but I’m worried about the longevity of my team and our ability to keep doing great work as crazy hours are still the not .

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

I learned a lot during my time there. I gained people skills, learned how a campaign is run, and was kept up to date about current politics.

    Kontras

I worked in the summer, and so the days were long and physically demanding. We would be out canvassing door to door from 3:30pm-8:30pm every night.

    Rat an das Management

Care a little more about the canvassers and less about the numbers.

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are the people you meet and the cause. There's also the chance to making high commissions if you're a good canvasser.

    Kontras

There is no job security - if you don't make quota 2 weeks in a row or 3 times non-consecutively, you are fired, no matter how long you've worked here. The pay system is shady from the beginning and local office management has their hands tied by higher-ups. Basically, they treat their canvassers as disposable.

    Rat an das Management

    Treat your canvassers better.

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

-Job attracts young, liberal minded people so non-work convos were stimulating and educated. -Very open-minded and politically correct, first interview in which I have been asked my pronouns -Compensation is lacking, so the people who generally work there are passionate about the mission of the campaigns. -Great for harboring public presentation skills through at least 5 hours a week of role-play practice with "directors"....

    Kontras

-Low pay rate of minimum wage with a focus on "incentive pay" aka commission- but this is capped at $100 for the week (which they absolutely don't advertise) -50 hour work week expectation with NO overtime pay -Glorified canvassing position, regardless of job title -"Directors" are overworked and under-informed and were generally 22-23 with 1 year of organizing experience and no real decision making or campaign planning...

    Rat an das Management

-Work to diversify daily duties to fight rampant boredom -Explore other organizing tactics than home canvassing! Community centers, farmers markets/food truck events, city halls, libraries or even Meet-Ups would offer excellent resources and groups of people who could be talked to so much more efficiently than spending hours walking from door-to-door

Does not reply to emails or reply to emails late.

    Kontras

Very easy to get accepted. Got hired without an interview.

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Teilzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

If you're a caller, you have a lot of free time that you can use however you want, as long as you're still on the phones. Flexible schedule (I think). Very nice and passionate people. Some opportunities for bonuses.

    Kontras

The company has a remarkably absurd quota that they keep very vague. You only get your percentage above or below. If you don't meet the quota for a week, you're placed on ultimatum and your pay is cut. Another week and you're fired. This system seems entirely based on luck. My best day was my first, which was a hybrid training day/second interview before I was even hired. My worst day was my last when I decided I wasn't...

    Rat an das Management

Listen, everyone I worked with wass remarkably nice. It's the only thing that made me feel bad about leaving the company. I can't even imagine what it's like for the directors and the door to door canvassers. Your workers are passionate and motivated. I have no doubt that everyone would have tried just as hard to raise money without the quota, because we all believe in the cause. All the quota does is cause stress, hostility...

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Fund for the Public Interest als Vollzeit gearbeitet

    Pros

Lots of learning, interesting people to work with - after work hangouts, team atmosphere, good causes, personal growth opportunity and opportunity for advancement, lots of exercise, etc

    Kontras

Difficult emotionally (at least for me), exhausting. As long as you don't negatively spiral, you can do this and make good money forever. I met some life-long canvassers, so it's possible. This is flawed but important work. Give it your best shot!

    Rat an das Management

Remember to care about the health of your employee's as much as the cause. Maybe you can squeeze two more days of fundraising out of them, or maybe you should just wish them well. I know it's hard for you to manage all the people you do. Best of luck!

    Pros

The company does good work and is comprised of wonderful, genuine people.

    Kontras

You can't live on the pay.

    Rat an das Management

Find room in the budget to pay your employees a livable salary!
