    Pros

Employee discounts and benefits are great. Easily move between properties worldwide. Good company culture, some senior managers truly care about coaching tour career. They allow young professionals to grow.

    Kontras

Unionized property makes it harder than its worth. In the outlets department, management are scheduled for 50+ hours weekly with no overtime pay or lieu days.

    Rat an das Management

Entry level employees should not have a higher base salary than management

    Pros

Great destinations program to stay at other Fairmont hotels, competitive rate of pay, great external training classes from leaders from their own organization behavior professional.

    Kontras

Very corporate, meaning if you have a bad director you will not have a good experience. I worked in a department with a poor director, but I could tell the other departments and properties that had better directors had a better work life. I wish there was more structure and direction for the department and my personal goals. Signed a 50 hour contract and usually work 65 hours with one day off and director... expected nothing less than this.

Listen to what your colleagues want and respect their needs and realize that everyone has their own idea of work-life balance and goals.

    Pros

Good benefits to stay at Fairmont properties. Lovely properties. At least superficially friendly staff.

    Kontras

Complete dysfunction from the top down. Way too much red tape. Lip service not backed by management's actions. No clear future planned for company.

    Rat an das Management

Give people a clear vision of where the company is going and how to get there. Get rid of the rotten apples, especially at the top. Give people the tools and authority to do their jobs effectively.

    Pros

Working with great Managers and Colleagues. Great benefits and great manager training programs.

    Kontras

Long working hours average 10 hours a day. Manager training programs were great but most of them were held in the morning so it was inconvenient to me since I had to work evening.

    Rat an das Management

    I was satisfied.

    Pros

Inter-hotel Job Transfers Good Health care including dental Special room rates at other Fairmont Hotels Christmas Party

    Kontras

Fairmont Selection Interview Process Colleague Engagement Survey Fairmont Annual Review System. Lower than average pay with no incentive approach to salaries for Management Low job security Low work to life balance

    Rat an das Management

Fairmont is focused on talent (a measurable metric in their psychometric online interview) ahead of experience or any other factors. In doing this they employee enthusiastic and predominantly young employees. This results in colleagues with capability but little or no experience placed in highly stressful roles, which many are simply not ready for or need to be trained and mentored into. This results in failures,... burnout as talented. Fairmont should reconsider there online selection interview approach, focus on a balance of experience and talent, and not ignore potential recruits with experience despite there interview score. The colleague engagement survey (CES) has become overly important, resulting in significant and undue pressure being brought to bear. While the CES may or may not be important, a culture of blame rather than understanding has developed. A new approach, guidance and mentoring should occur and the CES and an understanding of why it can or cannot be improved rather than a blanket targeted score without consideration of history, the environment and it being realistic.
