    Hardworking employees on the floor with 0 management support

    Kontras

    Essilor Toronto has very poor management, poor leadership and poor organizational structure. Work culture is very toxic and every manager talk behind each other’s back. Management use poor tactics to manage and lead employees. There is no vision, no planning, no goals or career improvement. High turn over both in the management and in every department. If you don’t speak French then you have 0 chance for any career... advancement. Bad salary structure and Hr department is not just helpless but also will violate employees rights. Honest advice: Please Don’t waste your time, think twice about your career.

    Pros

    Night shift bonus, extra $1. Lots of activities for employees. Shareholding and free lenses every year. Free Xmas party. They give you freedom to schedule your breaks and don't micro manage your time as long as your work gets done. The people are friendly and down to earth. Overtime is sometimes available. Three weeks vacation once you make two years.

    The work is less plentiful during certain seasons so overtime isn't often available. They may not always recognize your talents if you want to grow, so you may have to work harder to make yourself standout.

    No pros. The company has little vision, a continual revolving door of mass hiring and mass lay offs.

    Extremely unethical company who has absolutely no knowledge of fair and ethical business practises. If you don’t speak French, you don’t have a chance to be anything except used and abused. They use intimidation and scare tactics to try to squeeze work out of the predominately “newcomer to Canada” demographic which is sad because they do not know their employment rights under the employment standards act. They... will throw you out, the minute they can replace you with someone who will do your job for less compensation. They talk about training and development online and through social media channels to make it look like they invest in their employees however the only people who receive any shred of training are those who are ex-pats from France.

    If you want to develop a sustainable business practise, start treating your employees like “people” rather than robots. Don’t expect a nepotistic environment to yield positive results. Essilor, you should be ashamed of the way you conduct business.

    Nothing. The company is far from what it use to be.

    Nothing. After many yrs of hard work and loyalty, received the boot when company had a massive layoff. Select people were given positions in other departments, and for others it was a flat out no and no help even to transition to a sister lab with open positions. Seems the company was more interested in saving a dime by axing long term employees with benefits to turn around and hire a bunch of minimum wage no... benefit temps. They did this about a month after the layoff. To be given any opportunity here past entry level, you needed to be 1. a direct line of gossip for the lab manager, 2. related to the lab manager or one of her coveted buddies, or 3. fooling around with the right person. Many complaints to HR fell on deaf ears because why you ask...most of the old timers have worked together for years and cover each other’s butts. There is a lot of favoritism and sexual harassment in the culture here. For a long term employee the pay and benefits were good, but the company changed and paying for quality was no longer important.

    Wake up!! stop covering for your employed family members and people you think are your buddies. Treat all employees fairly, value your established hardworking employees that have done their time, and give advancement opportunities to those that deserve it based on their work knowledge and capability, not on if you think they are cute or fit into your personal social circle. Stop listening to gossip. A lot of it... is lies and some of you friends know how to manipulate you when they don’t like someone.
