    Pros

    Location (Manhattan)
I honestly have nothing else to say here

    Kontras

Small agency that is run by an egomaniac as his current ego-trip. The projects are mostly the same work being done over and over (emails using the exact same templates for e.g.) so there is no creativity and no learning experiences

The owner is the biggest con though. He is an obnoxious megalomaniac way out of his league in running an agency. He has no idea how to motivate his team, or even delegate to the right team members. The agency has lost a large number of employee s because of him and replacing them has been impossible as his reputation worsens.

    Rat an das Management

Pay your employees something at least close to industry averages.
Get the owner to take some classes on team management and learn how to interact without insulting his team

    Pros

    1. Free bagels on Fridays.
    2. The people are awesome. They are some of the smartest, nicest people you will ever meet and because of the poor office conditions and issues with leadership, we support and rally around each other.

    Kontras

    1. There is no proper training or mentorship to help you get started. You are not put in a position to suceed. The leadership is more concerned with production and quantity, instead of creativity and quality.

    2. The onboarding process was not good, which leadership admitted, and because the mentorship and training process is bad as well, you get blamed for things you did not know. It is sink or swim and there not enough competent leaders to ensure your sucess. When 6 people quit within a month and it takes a while to replace them, it raises red flags.

    3. Another problem with the lack of training and people is the work/life balance. You are inundated with work you are not prepared for, and because leadership is concerned with quantity, work/life balance is not considered and several people feel burnt out.

    Rat an das Management

Please listen to your employees. They are some of the most fun, intelligent and hard-working people I have worked with. The lack of organization and apathy for employees makes it an incredibly difficult place to work. Issues like refilling the bar, controlling the temperature in the building, etc, should not make employees nervous to ask the CEO or management. This could be a great agency, but right now it is being held back by ineptitude and indifference up top.

    Pros

Nice office space in a somewhat good neighborhood to get to. Good co-workers and nice coffee and snacks.

    Kontras

Interview and position did not match what the actual work was. Production shop disguised as an agency that only has one very demanding client who they let set timelines. Timelines and work were unreasonable which forced employees to work insane hours with no respect for personal time. CEO micromanaged projects and did not respect the creative process. Pay is below standard for the amount of time you would be forced to work there. After I started there, I learned that they burn out designers in under a year.

    Rat an das Management

Do not micromanage every project and expand timelines. Set proper client expectations so they won't demand things that are unreasonable. Offer proper industry standard pay and hire a few more senior designers so junior designers won't get burned out.

    Pros

Free snacks, almost everyone is young and fun, pool table (that you can”t use because you will be drowning in work), beautiful office that they can’t fill because everyone keeps quitting.

    Kontras

When I first interviewed for ergo, I was ecstatic to be joining a company that had it all together from what I could see. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I wasted months of my life working around the clock correcting my bosses mistakes and working my butt off. My job description was completely opposite of the one I interviewed for. The leadership team treats their employees horribly. They only see the bad in their employees and don’t bother asking the people they actually work with what they think. Salaries are way below industry average. This company gets mostly entry level employees who are just trying to get their foot in the door.

    Rat an das Management

Pay your employees what they deserve. Be on top of employee reviews. Train your employees properly. Tell your employees the positives you see in their work, not just the negative. Be open to criticism on your process because it couldn’t be worse.

    Pros

Talented team, care about quality, fun, free snacks everyday and bagel Fridays, cocktails

    Kontras

Need to hire more team members (but they're doing that actively).

    Rat an das Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Get more resources on board (I know you're actively doing this).

    Pros

The people working there are super nice. The work environment is pretty easygoing but everyone gives it their all.

Birthdays are celebrated with cupcakes and a song, there are free bagel Fridays, there's an annual company outing and the team does lunch together every once in a while. There are lots of great restaurants in the vicinity so you aren't spoiled for choice.

The company seems to be in an upward trajectory at the moment as well—some really exciting new projects are happening in 2017, the office is being beautified (there's a new pool table!), and additional employee benefits are being considered.

    Kontras

    No matching 401(k).
I've noticed some people consistently doing overtime work, hopefully this will change once there are new hires to take some of the load off their shoulders.

    Rat an das Management

Keep listening to feedback from employees about what can be done better.

    Pros

ERGO is a great place to work. It has great people and a laid back culture. There are many opportunities for growth, all you have to do is work hard and reach for them.

    Kontras

Sometimes I don't get the bagel I want on bagel Fridays.

    Pros

The people. When I look back at all the reviews, one common thread is the people. That's not an accident. This place always was and always will be about great people who are smart, work hard and are don't have a chip on their shoulder. Not everyone fits in here. You can see the opinions below of those who didn't fit in.

    Kontras

Now that the team has been rebuilt, still need more talent.

    Rat an das Management

    Keep it up.

    Pros

I worked here in a very junior role, general office assistant. Though certainly not the most glamorous position within the company I was always made to feel like a valuable member of the team. On a few occasions I was invited to sit in on new business pitches and client meetings - the kind of inclusion and opportunity for learning that I never would have had at a larger, more corporate agency. I was inspired here and encouraged by those who worked here and saw potential in me. Ultimately I left so I could pursue my dream of becoming a sommelier and now I work in very different industry but I will always look back fondly on my time spent working here, not least because in this role there were also occasions when I worked directly with John Hendricks, the CEO, on little things like organizing employee birthday celebrations or ordering gum-ball machines, the kind of thing most in his position wouldn't care about. But he did- he wanted people to enjoy coming to work, to create a positive and fun atmosphere. Someone told me once, "people forget the work, they remember how you made them feel". I think that's so true, I remember feeling inspired, valued and lucky to work there.

    Kontras

Nothing really to say here. Truly, it was a wonderful and memorable experience working here. I'm surprised at the negative reviews on here to be honest. They clearly seem to be written by someone who never actually worked here and is just spamming. I'd really hate to think any of those negative comments dissuaded people from wanting to work here, it would be a terrible shame.

    Rat an das Management

Keep doing what you're doing, looking for, inspiring and fostering talent. It meant a lot to me that members of the management team took the time to encourage my interest in learning more about the business.

    Pros

Having been here for a while, I've seen the positive results come through and the growth of the company success. I've been fortunate to work with great people in which I've been able to build my skills and have been given the opportunity to help other build theirs. I enjoy that the projects are new and exciting.

    Kontras

Sometimes there are late nights but it's not so bad as I have a good team support.

    Rat an das Management

Keep up the good work and continue to invest in your employees.
