Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Contiki gearbeitet

    Pros

-Fun team activities & parties (incredible Christmas party every year)
-Great discounts but (obviously) only applicable on Travcorp products
    -Good benefits package
-They try to hire from within as much as possible, even if the inside hire doesn't posess all the necessary qualifications.

    Kontras

    -Poor incentive structure
    -Tone-deaf executives
-Very low pay. Raises are rare. A lot of people struggle financially at the company and work overtime to try to make a few extra dollars
    -High turnover
-Not many opportunities for promotions - mostly just lateral movements to support departments in The Travel Corporation

    Rat an das Management

Listen to your employees suggestions. A lot of your employees are extremely unhappy and you neither seem to notice nor care.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Contiki gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    Lovely and really fun team
Occasional fun parties/office drinkies and opportunities for team mingling
    Monthly shindigs with beer etc
    Really nice and approachable director
Lovely and incredibly helpful/communicative/approachable HR department
    6 month reviews
    Supportive manager
    Great experience

    Kontras

Wasn’t provided with a suitable laptop so had to use my personal (and very old) laptop for over a year, while new recruits were constantly being bought new MacBooks. When I mentioned this in public while my senior colleagues were panicking about buying a brand new MacBook for a new recruit, they shushed me and told me to ‘never say that out loud again’. Way to make me feel like a valued team member.
Was kept on short contracts with no indication of whether I would be hired on a perm contract, meaning I had half the amount of days off as everyone else and zero job security.
Wasn’t provided with a clear outline of responsibilities or job spec, was spread out across remits and left in the dark about what my actual priorities were or what the perimeters of my job were - the fact that I was wearing so many hats meant I couldn’t actually excel in any one thing which made me feel hugely inadequate at times.
Very small office with few places to meet in private/work in private.
Really low salary, with no office perks so to speak (only certain people seemed to get a free ‘familiarisation’ trip).
Ridiculously high staff turnover, messy system of hiring new recruits (I once overheard someone ask someone else if they were a visitor - turns out they were new but no one knew they had been hired. For an office of 30-odd people that’s a little sloppy).
A small office but loads of secrecy and whispering conversations going on, seemed quite members club-y with the senior members at times and left the junior staff members constantly guessing what was going on with the company which resulted in lots of rumours.
No communication regarding my future at the company until I indicated I wanted to leave when they finally scrambled together a perm contract. By that point sadly, after a year on short contracts, I’d long since made plans to leave.

    Rat an das Management

Hire more people, better comms with new recruits, move to a bigger and more central space, implement some actual office perks! People need incentives to work as hard as they do that extend beyond the occasional Friday office drinkies. Also: stop trying to cut corners and hire a specialised customer service team to run the DM’s as well as telephone and live chat lines!! It doesn’t make any sense for the marketing/editorial team to be answering questions about people’s specific trips all day when all we can do is tell people to call the number on the website. We’re simply not trained - it’s a waste of our time and a huge disservice to the customer.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Contiki gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    Nice enough people
    Free drinks

    Kontras

Very toxic environment, management do not care about staff. No thanks for long hours or praise for work. Team structure was a mess, particularly in marketing. People always looked for someone to blame instead of providing solutions. Ignorant comments often thrown around, with people laughing them off or pretending not to hear. No feedback given ever, salary increases or progression handed out to favourites or those who suck up consistently to management. You give loyalty but do not get it back at all. Not a place I would recommend working. You always leave feeling stressed out and dreading the next day. The pretty facade wears off very quickly! Not a family friendly place, so if you have kids don't bother. You'll be looked down upon the minute you need to leave early or come in later. Every woman who has gone away on maternity leave has been told to return to work part time would be detrimental to the company, so have not been able to return to work. Says it all. Of course, the minute they've announced their pregnancy or gone off on maternity the decision is made then about part time hours, so not considered fairly which I'm pretty sure is against the law.

    Rat an das Management

Don't pick favourites, rewarded based on merit. Also everyone is different, and so have different needs or working styles. Because one person does it different to another, does not determine their worth. Also being the loudest or most versed at sucking up doesn't equate to how well someone is at doing their job. Listen to your staff, be open to change, find out why problems are occuring before pointing fingers. Be open and honest instead of whispering behind backs. Try being a bit more diverse in the hiring process too!

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Contiki gearbeitet

    Pros

Opportunity to learn and grow due to a huge staff turnover
    Free drinks and sometimes lunches

    Kontras

One person does 3 people work
A lot of stress and pressure often without a business reason,
A lot of changes in teams all the time.
No process. Some members of management team are inadequate, don't have good people skills and common manners.
Company has not "let's fix it" approach but "who did it, who to blame " approach
Company will not pay for your trainings and will not raise your salary. They will find someone else.
Huge turnover. In a year all your colleagues will be new.

    Rat an das Management

Set up process and follow it
    Be consistent, not hysterical

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Contiki gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

The people that you work with are all amazing.

    Kontras

-Schedule is all over the place and no consistency
    - Low pay and commission
    - No raises
-No room for growth (if you do move up the pay isn't much more)
    - Very micro-managed
-Everything that you do is being timed and if you aren't fast enough you'll be asked what is taking you so long
    - Tons of issues that are simple to fix to make employees more efficient are ignored
    - Reservations is the only phone number for people to call, so you will deal with every issue that people have such as, website issues, travel agent site issues, passengers on trip issues, etc. (you'll provide them the information for the best team to reach out to but they won't receive a response for several weeks or at all)
-You can never provide a solution for them (you're just the middle man who has to get the answer from a different team 3 days after the customer called in)
-Advertise that you will get a free trip after one year of service, but you don't and if you're lucky enough to eventually get one after a couple of years you must be there for 6 months minimum after you return.

    Rat an das Management

Appreciate your bottom line employees more.
Job should be advertised only as a customer service position because that is all reservations deals with.
