Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio - CLUES gearbeitet (Über 5 Jahre)

    Pros

It's a great place to serve the community. It is centrally located and set in Latino community areas of the Twin Cities.

    Kontras

Management is awful. They do not listen to employees and abuse their status. There is a lot of talk but little action to supporting employees.

    Rat an das Management

Consider employees' experience. Not all managers are hard workers. They need to set the example. My manager was never around or visible. Management need to evaluate themselves and should provide a space for employees to express concerns. Human resource should be a confidential place.

I went there to discuss concerns and ask questions and the next few days, my supervisor approached me very angry and said there was a chain of command that I needed to go through him first.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio - CLUES gearbeitet

    Pros

Lots of client contact, flexible scheduling, free parking, environment that is very supportive of minorities. You really feel like you are making a difference for people on a day-to-day basis. Many great opportunities for students.

    Kontras

Minimal expectations about professional behavior (meetings start whenever, people are late a lot, managers say things that would be inappropriate in a corporate environment)

    Financial compensation isn't great/competitive

Health benefits were lousy (HSA was a joke)

    Rat an das Management

Don't just go after whatever program funding or expansion opportunities you see. Try to ensure staff are capable of handling the responsibilities and meeting expectations first.

Ich habe bei Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio - CLUES gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

This organization is in the same building as the Mexican Consulate in St. Paul, MN and is on a major bus line. There is plenty of parking. Of the many programs that CLUES offers, two of them are free English language lessons and technology usage lessons to adults. Working as a volunteer is extremely fulfilling. There is an orientation for volunteers that is informative and complete. The curriculum is well established with plenty of teaching aids. The full time staff are enthusiastic, supportive, and extremely generous with their time to coach one through any lesson. This is a volunteer position in which one, as the volunteer, may get more out of it than the adults (or children) who are the participants. CLUES is well organized, well run, and highly respected for their efforts in the Latino community. The amount of preparation time I put in, outside of the classroom benefited me greatly. I encourage all other volunteers to do the same! Be prepared with more material than you could possibly use during each teaching session. Teaching English is a character-building experience and has given me a great appreciation for what it is like to start over in a foreign country and try to build ones life. I highly recommend volunteering at CLUES as they are a well deserving organization who serves the Latino community.

    Kontras

    1. CLUES needs volunteers to help present their many programs, and many times they just do not have enough people.
    2. Volunteers who are teaching are asked to write a summary report at the end of each days lesson. Some volunteers forget or neglect to do this important step. Without the summary report the next volunteer teacher will not know how far along the class is in the curriculum. This is the only sore spot and it is not a reflection on the program, per se.

    Rat an das Management

Reinforce the need, and expectation, of the written summary report after a volunteer has completed teaching their class.

Ich habe als Praktikant bei Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio - CLUES gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Get to work with a growing community in South Minneapolis and providing positive support, helping to give empowerment to marginalized groups, sharing and spreading love and knowledge of language

    Kontras

Can potentially be difficult to consistently develop and instruct effective classes, volunteer participation is uneven

    Rat an das Management

I would say maybe strengthen the orientation for ESL/ELL teachers, otherwise this an excellent organization and resource for the community in South Minneapolis

    Pros

    Helping a community in need.

    Kontras

Selfish people in leadership who's only concern is personal gain, taking advantage of an underrepresented population. Using people's desire to help those in need to climb the ladder because they do not have the experience, intelligence and most of all no qualifications to hold any place of leadership.

    Rat an das Management

Get back to helping those in need. Forget the politics and do what is right. Stop letting go of GREAT people who get fed up of the unlimited power used by poor leadership.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio - CLUES gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Great networking, Diversity, very relaxed work culture

    Kontras

employees are overworked, the company is "quantity" over "quality", lack of leadership involvement, lack of experienced leadership (i.e. vice president has HS diploma only, president has no experience managing a non profit focused on wellness ), no supervision of employees leading to multiple ethical out of court settlements, HIGH turnover (ask for turnover stats 2012-2014),

    Rat an das Management

The advice is to CLUES Board of Directors: "Your current leadership has done an excellent job of neglecting the Hispanic populations needs by profiting on grant money for this population to fund their political agenda ( look at budget costs for networking trips to DC 2012-14). This is a shame since the focus should be for here in MN. Also, your VP will be the red card for an audit in the future ( No educational background, OBVIOUS NEPOTISM on your behalf, fraud with funds)

    Pros

I worked with many really awesome people that truly care about the latino community in Minnesota

    Kontras

Low wages. EXTREMELY political. Lots of backstabbing and ladder climbers. Leadership ONLY cares about securing grants, contracts and other forms of income.

    Rat an das Management

Make your mission statement and values congruent with what ACTUALLY happens

    Pros

Culturally diverse buisness, flexible work schedules, good benefits

    Kontras

No opportunity for growth, added responsibilities and w/no overtime paid, it's not a client care based company it's focus is quantity over quality ($$$$), high turnover.

    Rat an das Management

Advice wouldn't do at this point. The company has a sideways based view on growth expansion of facilities and quantity of services over employee growth and quality care. Higher ups keep getting promoted while regular employees turn over at an alarming rate. The company needs manpower over last minute invented titles of leadership. People that have been here for a long time understand that directors of programs are not doing enough , if at all anything to make programs better. I suggest asking employees their side of the story or expect a mass exodus of people jumping ship...
