    Pros

    High acuity hospital with plenty of exposure to improve your nursing skills.

    Kontras

    Toxic environment starts from the top and trickles down to Frontline nurses. Mgmt plays favorites and puts a target on the rest. Have witnessed strong experienced rns gets terminated multiple times. If you stand up for what's right, they will shut you down if it's not in line with choc's vision. You don't know if you can trust your own coworkers because everyone is concerned about their own job security. They lose... their best nurses in exchange for new grad nurses who don't know any better and get paid less.

    Rat an das Management

    This has gone on for too long for any solid advice to mgmt. Advice for rns, though, is to unionize. That's the only way to protect yourselves there.

    Pros

    Some of the best physicians I have ever worked with in my career. Caring professionals, truly in medicine because they love it and the kids.

    Kontras

    The worst management I have ever been a part of. They don't care about their employees, especially the long term ones who grind day in and day out, go above and beyond and they kick them to the curb like they are trash. I saw it first hand three times already and it's truly saddening. They hire interim managers who don't know what they are doing or how to manage anyone, not even themselves and expect units to run... smoothly. No union, so no support if your having problems with anyone in authority above you. They don't care and will let you go if you make any kind of report or ruffle any feathers. Benefits are not special and either is sick leave. You max accrue and then they don't give anymore unless you use, not good business practice for a large corporation.

    Rat an das Management

    Get to know your employees, who they are, what they care about and what makes them better people. In return they will give you back 100% and will never leave your unit for any reason other than leaving the area. The only good manager I had at CHOC knew me, asked me weekly about how I was doing in my professional and personal life and cared. I never worked harder for anybody than I did for her.
