    Pros

    Working at Brandwatch nearly three years, I've seen the company grow and change considerably. That is simply what startups/scaleups do. I truly believe that any perceived or actual "cons" about working here are outweighed by huge positives. Work/life balance is highly valued, there is a culture of ambition and hard work, and individual opinions are listened to and addressed regardless of experience, title, or... length of employment. Career development is there for the taking, which isn't the view of everyone here. Working for a young company that is not solely process-driven means that if you want your career to develop you have to be proactive and enthusiastic about it. And your manager has to do the same. There are plenty of opportunities to seek out, but it involves leg work. I think that's what separates the real "Brandwatchers" from those that expect things handed to them. An entrepreneurial spirit is mandatory for success anywhere, especially here. People really care, from the HR manager in New York (wonderful!) to the "veterans" that have been here since the office had just 25 people. People are willing to help and pitch in no matter what - from interns to C-suite executives. There is palpable drive, progress, diligence, and energy. Other perks: Plenty of snacks, catered meals, happy hours, unique bonding experiences (field days, holiday parties, themed gatherings i.e. Running of the Bulls party, Olympics watching, and so much more). Internal wellness and social committees have brought us massages, healthier Friday breakfasts, and more. Good benefits for New York City. Great location in Flatiron. Access to senior leadership, opportunities to get involved in different areas of the company. Hard work is valued. Flexibility to work home if need be, support for physical fitness and external hobbies, and a general sense of camaraderie.

    The work day can move in the "too fun" realm with such a young staff. Senior leadership and middle management can do more to create an environment with a little more rigor. New York seems to have a more jovial, friendly, and diligent atmosphere compared to HQ in Brighton. (Warning: not really a con) Aggressive growth goals and ambition can be challenging. If you're not being challenged, you're not growing.

    Empower middle and senior management more, delegate non-priority processes and work, and continue to work hard. Brandwatch is only as good as its people. There needs to be a priority on better hiring and helping managers and employees be more proactive about career development conversations. There have been people who got through the hiring process despite opposition, and things didn't work out for them here.... This can be prevented. Do more to make global employees feel there is fairness between offices when it comes to work output, communication, and benefits. Encourage better communications internally. Don't be discouraged by "culture issues"; the culture here is strong and with the right people and careful attention to hiring we will bring in more people to balance and complement Brandwatch's work and spirit. A lot of great recent VP hires shows we're on the way.

    Pros

    - You get free food and drink - Modern office - Responsive and capable I.T. department (I've never worked in a company with such reliable and easy I.T. systems) - Pretty casual attitude to being in the office; get in when you want within reason and you can work from home

    - Complete lack of trust between departments, which leads to unhealthy conflict - Software developers are seen as the most important role in the company, and as such are given preferable treatment when compared to other departments - Juvenile behaviour; It's more like an after school club than a business - Senior managers are arrogant, egotistical and aggressive - Decisions cannot be made with autonomy;... majority of decisions are forced from the top down - Lack of vision and focus - Its widely accepted that there are serious problems at Brandwatch but the people causing them are at the top and are happy with the way things are; therefore nothing can be done about to make Brandwatch better - High employee turn over as a consequence of the above

    You have to accept that there is a problem at Brandwatch and you are the cause. So many people have left the company within the last year, all who have quoted similar reasons for leaving, all who wouldn't recommend working at Brandwatch to a friend.

    Free snacks and drinks that's about it

    -Terrible leadership -Constant lying and blaming -Many many employees have left or are at least planning to leave -Product has now become outdated and most sales opportunities are lost to competition (plenty of other cooler companies to join in this area) -Commission not paid as promised or delivered on time -Many many recent college graduates who spend their days trading childish jokes vs. doing actual work... on Slack. Yet, these same people are seen as the company's risings stars. -Company has consistently missed their revenue targets for multiple years -Company is notoriously cheap -Pay is not competitive with other tech companies -Many passive aggressive employees -Company had it's chance to do well, now is a lost cause

    - Lots of free, trendy lunches -Positive people and environment - Cool global company locations -CEO is very humble and accessible

    - Very much a large hipster clique, if you don't "fit in" you won't be included on things. One of the main hiring factors is if you're a "culture fit". WHO CARES? Working in social media is fun for a bit but no longevity here. There are real companies out there that value things other than everyone being best friends. Too much focus on fun and joking around. Need to realize we are not in high school. -No career... growth. Not trying to have no upwards trajectory

    - Hire skillful, smart people and the company will grow, stop depending on nice "culture fits" for employees. -The realistic goals of growing as a company are redundant at times, this market will forever be competitive and with lots of overlap because the product offerings will always be mirrored and copied day by day week by week.

    - The people - The myriad challenges of working in a high growth company mean it's never boring - Opportunity for career moves into new areas (roles, teams, countries!)

    Not really a con, but expectations are very high, and the rate of change is demanding.

    Talented engineers, beautiful offices, live by the sea, mostly friendly staff, exciting industry to work in.

    Kontras

    No clear career path, culture has drifted towards being commercial oriented, involvement in decision making is limited to a chosen few, salaries are not competitive for the industry, lack of reward for the more introverted employees.

    Really poor induction process. Strongly entrenched views Huge amount of middle managers, some of which probably aren't that well suited to managing. Not great pay prospects. There's a big focus on brandwatch culture and everyone talks about how important the culture is, but it's words rather than actions. My experience of it so far is you're either in the "in" crowd or you're not. You can struggle to get... heard and it can be quite political.

    Pros

    The company feels like it is heading in the right direction, the people are great, there are plenty of opportunities for personal development and it really does feel as though everyone is working towards the same goals. On the whole, the senior management seem to be making good decisions for the company. Brandwatch need to be careful maintain its culture, it truly is one of its main strengths!

    With some employees, there seems to be a sense of entitlement and expectation of all of the great perks that the company provides. It would be nice if everyone would take a step back every once in a while and realise what a good thing they are part of.
