Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei Birks gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

You get to work with high-end jewellery and receive good discounts for staff.

    Kontras

    1. Racism If you're not Chinese, you will be treated as a second-class human being with no rights and given scraps for sales. You will viciously get attacked if you try to help Chinese customers because non-Chinese sales staff are not allowed even to approach Chinese customers. Mob-mentality is a real issue at Birks to the point where like chimps, Chinese staff will separate and verbally abuse other... nationalities regularly. The worst part is that management looks on and turns a blind eye because they don't want to hurt the bottom line. Sometimes they encourage open racism to take place and ask you to take one for the team. 2. Sexism As a woman, I do not possess the strength of a man. My manager forced me to close a vault door, which was hundreds of pounds. When I said that it was too heavy, my manager verbally abused me and pushed me to close the vault by myself. Other men were standing and watching the abuse. No one offered to help. If you're heterosexual, you have to be ready to get bullied because the manager is gay and will attack your sexual orientation. It's best to keep everything a secret since no family values are respected at Birks in downtown Vancouver. 3. Unfair treatment If you are a woman and a visible minority (not Chinese), you will, without a doubt, get abused. Special treatment is given to different staff members based on sales and seniority. For example, when it's not busy, the whole store is supposed to inventory and clean up duties. If you're not Chinese, a man, have fifteen years of experience and are not part of their mob, you will end up becoming the only person who will take care of the hard work. Everyone else will stand around and talk among themselves. 4. Dismal management The nightmare will start as soon as you start working at Birks. There is no one to help with training. You get a booklet and are asked to read and learn everything on your own. Management sits in their office and willfully ignore the abuse that takes place at Birks. They will not address any issue and will compound the problem by saying, "suck it up". If sales are low, they never blame themselves. You are to blame and no one else. They will ask you to even scam customers by charging more and not telling the truth about events and sales, which will take place in the near future. Other than verbally abusing the staff, management doesn't help you grow. All you will hear is, "you need to sell more" or "why don't you bring more customers?". 5. Prejudice Only Chinese customers are respected. Other races are not welcome at Birks. The staff will not even try to accommodate different races unless they know they have money. In that case, the sales staff will do their best to steal your customer right from under your nose. If you complain, you'll get shunned and are asked to know your place. If a customer wants an item from another Birks location, you are screamed at to sell something from the store you work for. Management will try to sneak products that the customer doesn't want, as long as it's at their location. Here is the exact wording: "The customer does not know what they want. You have to learn to change their mind so that they buy something at our store. If you're a good salesperson, you can manipulate the customer into buying something other than what they desire." The insults start if the customer refuses to buy what management is trying to push on them. At the end of the day, you are to blame.

    Rat an das Management

Be more respectful. Be more involved and stop workplace bullying/racism. Help your staff instead of hiding away in your office. Get involved in training. Learn how to give criticism without abusing your staff.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als einem Jahr bei Birks (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Minimum pay and commission if you sell

    Kontras

Management takes great pleasure in turning associates against each other thinking that will increase the sales instead it creates a toxic environment. There's no after sales support or support during a sale from management. The rules change on a daily basis and creates confusion and loop holes for associates that don't care about their job to get away with lots of things other people will get fired for. There's aa... great nepotism at store level.

    Rat an das Management

Treat everyone the same and hold everyone accountable for their mistakes. Don't pick and choose favourites that can get away with murder just because they gossip about everyone else. Open your eyes and see who is actually worthy and doing their job and keep those people on board.
