Pros

The onboarding process is really well organized, I never felt alone moving my first steps and I got the chance to meet every department in the first few weeks, having a very good understanding of the company since the very beginning. Moreover (not sure if it's only for engineering) I received a board with small goals to achieve in the first few months and I found it really helpful to fill some gaps before actually starting to be productive in the team sprint. Colleagues are always keen to give a help when I'm lacking some context or I want to discuss technical approaches, but they also give you the space to experiment on your own. Management is also well structured, having a mentor for the first period and regular 1/1s to establish career path and objectives with the manager. There's a strong cooperation between teams and coming from start-ups I really appreciate it. Sometimes in bigger companies every team work on its own stuff, but here it's not the case: everyone's happy to share their own experience and what they do, helping in getting broader context overall. Last but not least working remotely is really smooth thanks to company's partner abroad and the HR team who both help out understanding the processes.

Kontras

During the onboarding process I struggled a bit to get credentials for services here and there. It wasn't a big issue as the IT team is really fast in handling these things (never took more than a couple of hours) but as this happens often it could probably be improved.

Pros

The company appears to be on a successful trajectory. There appears to lots of money within the workspace. There are free soft drinks at the office. You can work from home in Germany. (An overlooked caveat here is: Their contract promises "remote working", but you really can't leave the country, there is way too much bureaucracy around that.)

This company failed to pay my salary twice, and actually while I did freelance work before joining them paid as late as 30 days after invoicing them. I constantly felt like they were in arrear payments with me. Contrary to their reply to a previous review about payments, they most certainly do not pay on time. While they might say the working hours are flexible, in my experience my team filled up my calendar with meetings from 9 - 5. As a software engineer, many of these meetings seemed like an irrelevant waste of time. I didn't feel very productive at the company. They promise "remote working," which is in practice almost impossible. You can work from home, but if you wanted to leave the country, you'd have to request permission 3 weeks in advance. You'd have to be within 2 hours of German timezone, and a bunch of other weird rules and regulations. This company is incredibly bad at planning anything at scale. Their "summer party" of 2022 left people standing out in the sun in the middle of abandoned factory district within Köln. No outdoor seating, no umberellas, or no aircon inside the venu. People were forced to stand in the sun for 2 hours and take a covid test before entering the venu. If relocating, they provide 1 month rental, but when you arrive it takes 2 weeks to get an Anmeldung meeting with the city and up to 3 weeks to get a tax number. Meaning, you're very likely to overstay the one month accommodation they provide. They are absolutely aware of this, but they'll still make decisions to place many of their relocated employees in accommodation that costs 500 Euro per week. This accommodation happens to be listed on another website that Gerald Schönbucher (The CEO) happens to be a major investor in according to his own Linkedin profile. This means that the man paying your salary happens to put you in a situation where you pay most of it back to another one of his investments.
