Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei McGraw-Hill (Über 3 Jahre)

Okay, there may be some caveats to my headline. I've only worked for one other educational publisher (Cengage Learning) and have only second-hand knowledge of another (Pearson Education). Also, like any other big company, your work experience depends significantly on your management and those with whom you interact on a daily basis. The colleagues I work with on the International team are all smart, diverse in their strengths, passionate for education, and work well together as a team. But that was not the case when I first started with the company. There was an issue within the team which was proving to be detrimental and toxic. However, that was fairly quickly addressed which I believe speaks volumes of the company and its openness to "re-evaluation."

The other draw to this company — in my opinion — is the CEO. Leadership at the top defines the culture, the optimism (or lack thereof), and the heart. McGraw-Hill has/has had the best, most genuine, and transparent CEOs I've come across in my 20+ year career. When I accepted the position with McGraw-Hill, it was partly due to my impression of David Levin. I think I have a pretty good BS detector and I appreciated his authenticity. Then there is Simon Allen (current CEO). He epitomizes what I, as an employee, look for in a company culture — authenticity, optimism, encouragement, leadership, product knowledge, and something I didn't expect to be all that important — humor — but when you're having a particularly bad or stressful day, his town halls will certainly uplift you.

As for all the other "pros" employees look for in an employer, such as flexibility, work-life balance, commitment to health and well-being, work with a purpose, I would rank McGraw-Hill at the top. There are certainly times you may be working 60+ hours a week, but again, depending on your management, in my experience with McGraw-Hill, they seem to embrace the new demand for flexible schedules.

The only reason I didn't give a 5-star rating is because of the industry and the layoffs that seem to be never-ending. Having been a part of a re-org layoff, I completely understand why some have rated McGraw-Hill 1-star. It's truly one of the most devastating things that can happen to you and honestly, It'm not sure how this review would differ if I were laid off.

Also, the pay, merit increases, and bonuses are lower than you will find in other industries.

    Rat an das Management

This is more advice to the McGraw-Hill Board of Directors and those involved in the McGraw-Hill/Cengage merger, Please keep Simon Allen on as CEO.

Anonymer Bewerber im Vorstellungsgespräch in Berlin

    Leichtes Gespräch

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 1 Tag. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Oktober 2017 bei McGraw-Hill (Berlin).

Very bad attitude of HR and the worst interview ever!
I was directly contacted by HR via phone, without any prior information.
Straight away as I picked the call, there was no introduction about the job / position nor the company. He straight away asked me about my previous experiences and asked me to talk for about 20 minutes. For 20 minutes I spoke all I can and then he does respond with any kind of question at all. He straight away says " will talk to my manager and get back to you" and then the call is ended. After the call is ended within a minute I got the rejection mail, without proper reason( automated mail)

This kind of behaviour is completely unprofessional, I have never spoken to a HR with this bad attitude and this really affects the candidate and lowers the confidence. The communication was not two way, I felt the whole time like I am talking to a wall.

The worst HR call I have ever had!
