Ich habe bei Language Connect gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    + international atmosphere
    + lots of big clients
    + gain of industry awareness
    + lovely office location
    + many other interns

    Kontras

    - offers too many services so that quality must be questioned
    - PM hardly know much about their own projects due to size of workload
    - most translation services are quality-assured which means that a non-speaker simply checks consistency and spelling without knowing the language; which can lead to major mistakes e.g. linguists that deliver Google machine translation without anyone noticing straight away
    - LCs trend goes towards quantity rather than quality
    - communication mainly on skype that might lead to misunderstanding
    - internship training program often reduced and thus daily work often the same; mainly QA checks
    - own intern projects are often little and language skills in languages other than English aren't needed for daily work
    - no in-house translations unfortunately although the majority of staff has a masters in translation or interpreting
    - minimum wage way too little for living in London

    Rat an das Management

    - Teams should work together more closely and communication must be improved
    - LC should start to use in-house translators
    - databases can be optimised: more automatisation: e.g. asking best-rated translators and interpreters automatically about availability for project; this could make life a lot easier not only for translation PMs but especially for the interpreting team: their job is to call up interpreters the whole day to ask for their availability to allocate bookings in hospitals!
    - interns should be given more varied tasks to get a broader idea of the language industry

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I applied on their website for their Project Management translation position, which was advertised as a 4-month program. Sadly, the HR department process which was seemingly diligent ended up being careless, poorly organized, very impersonal, and essentially broken. This has left me with a very negative impression of the company.

The online application included availability as a compulsory field to fill in. I was only available for 15 weeks, so I knew it was important that the company knew this from the start. As I was only one week short of the required duration, I felt it was still worth applying in case they were flexible. I submitted my application and read I would hear back shortly - but I didn't hear anything back for 2 weeks.

    2 weeks later:
I emailed them to double check that they received my application, and I was sent an automated email that I had been shortlisted and would need to take a 2-hour MS Word formatting test. I was excited to be considered despite being a week short on my availability. I set aside the necessary 2 hours one evening to complete the task. Immediately after clicking the one-time use link- I received an error page which said that the link code was broken.

I emailed the HR department with a screenshot of the page, and asked if they could resend the link. They responded saying that they were unable to find my application (?!) and asked me to reapply.

I reapplied on their website again.
    I listed my availability again.
They sent me the link for the 2 hour test again.

I completed the 2 hour task. I then received an automated email that I would hear back within 3 days - but I didn't hear anything back for 2 weeks.

    2 weeks later:
After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, I sent them an email thanking them and asking if I could get some feedback on my application. Again I received an automated email saying I had been shortlisted for the next round, and was asked to complete a 1-hour translation test.

I did the translation test, and a day later I received a somewhat obtuse email asking for my availability - I assumed this was for a final interview, as I had already provided my program availability on my online applications - both of them. They clarified that they meant my availability for the program and I responded. I was then sent an email saying that their internships are for a 'minimum duration of 4 months which is 18 weeks' and 'to keep an eye on their careers page for future vacancies' .

The HR dept. was unresponsive, lost my application, sent me a broken link, and made me waste my time taking 3 hours worth of testings and sending multiple email inquiries only to be declined based on something they could have seen on my very first application in one of the very first fields.

I sincerely hope that they take this feedback on board in order to improve their recruitment process!
