    Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview process was pretty straightforward. I was contacted pretty shortly after applying for an initial phone screen. After speaking with the recruiter, she asked me to send over my portfolio, and set up time for me to speak with the hiring manager. He asked me a number of situational questions, and some about my career experience. In speaking with him, I was told that there's no room for career growth within the department or company. The hiring manager has been in his role for 20+ years, and has not made much progress. They aren't looking to grow the department in the foreseeable future by adding elevate roles either. He let me know that there was a potential to have more responsibilities added to my role, but no actual promotions. I don't understand how a company can function in this way by not promoting employees who have tenure and are excelling in their position. I appreciate the honesty, but its a huge turn off to hear that there's no room for career growth, but that the managers will continue to stick you with more work. I felt like the interview was very thorough, especially with me sending over my portfolio beforehand, but they still asked me to complete a project and wanted to set up another interview with the same hiring manager. Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind completing a project for an interview, but it didn't seem like a valuable use of my time, given the bleak career opportunity. I declined and decided to continue on in my career search with a company that can offer upward career mobility.
