    The people are nice, and by that I mean the workers who are side by side with you. Most people are willing to help each other out and want to do a good job.

    The wages are good as are the benefits.

    I give credit where it is due and Alex is a good CEO with clear direction and we know what the company is trying to accomplish. I hope he continues to clean upper mgmt out and replace with fresh outside people.

    The aboriginal housing initiative is something to be proud of here at CVE. Again kudos to Alex for thinking outside the box and trying to make a difference.

    They stood behind their mental health initiative and increased benefits for mental health issues. Nicely done.


    There are managers but no leaders. Big difference. After they are done talking you have no idea what they just said, pure politicians that look after themselves. Chronic problem at CVE is no manager stands up for their staff as they won’t rock the boat. Managers, Directors, and VPs look after themselves and don’t appear to care about staff development at all.

    I have never ever seen our EVP on our floor EVER. Zero contact with him or even a sighting. I have more faith I might catch a glimpse of Bigfoot one day vs our EVP. I would be less shocked if someone on our team told me they just met Justin Bieber wandering around on our floor vs our EVP. This even goes to our VP, there is minimal daily contact with him as well and the average employee rarely sees him. I’ve got a better one on one relationship with the guy at Tim Hortons then I do with our VP, the guy at Tim Hortons at least says hello and makes eye contact.

    Development is a theory with only lip serve paid to it. Lots of talk little action.

    Alex, If you really wanted to see how development is going hold the VPs accountable to their development budgets for staff. If it’s not being spent, that is indicative that staff are afraid to ask for opportunities or it is not encouraged. If you ask how much the VP spent that year, take out what was spent on mgr and above development. See what is being spent on the average employee. That would be telling, and I predict they would all be way under on their allotted budgets.

    Our team has been told very clearly by the VP there are no promotions for technical staff unless someone above you leaves. In effect you are capped, so the technical ladder is a theory and not a practice. The issue I have with this is it appears to be our VPs policy and not a CVE policy. I wish Alex would crack down on these group specific “policies” that seem to be independently developed as they are crushing to employee morale.

    Would it traumatize senior staff to spend time with their staff? Show up at a lower level group lead team meeting once in a while? Get to know what your staff are talking about vs what is being fed to you by your managers. It might be eye opening. I get they are busy people but come on, this is ridiculous.
